new guy needs some basic rules advice

ive just returned to the game after 20 years. ive played twice now.
my pal pulled me up regarding my service. he said i had to wait untill he stood with his racket pointing up.

when he served to me everytime i had my hands low, thats my style. i dont complain.

I think you may've just served before he was ready. Wait for him to be looking at you before you serve, in his ready position.
If he attempts to hit the shuttle when you serve then you have served fine. If he complains he wasn't ready then he shouldn't have attempted to hit your serve

he said hes onlyy ready when his racket is up.
he made me reserve at least 3 times.
i pumped him 3 nil

Tell him that a receiver usually indicates he/she is not ready by putting the non-racket hand up.

Having the racket head up or down is not the signal to show readiness or not.

The rules do state that you don't serve until the receiver is ready but it also states that if he makes an attempt to return the serve then he was deemed ready.

Do as Chris says and tell him to have his non racket hand up until he IS ready.

good doggy doggy.. annoy him. just put your hands on the waist and wait till he gets ready. the ask him 'ready'? before you serve.. keep on pumping it.. lol.

He also said that when serving in singles you play to the rear line. I thought it was the front line of the two.
Is he correct?

In sgls, rear line is the last line. I think he is correct.

Singles: long and skinny, always.
Doubles: wide and long except on serve when it is wide and short.

Yes he is correct.

Singles = always *Narrow* and "Long" line, iow no change

Doubles = always *Wide*, but serve it is "short" line and during rally it is "long", iow change
