The INA MS players were the biggest losers on day 1 of the main draw of the 101 version of the AE tournament.
The biggest upset of the day has to be TH who lost to KY 21-10,21-14.
With these losses, INA has only DHR left in the MS draw;he faces LD in the 2nd round.
DHR could be dangerous and he almost beat LCW in the recent INA league.

    Other notable upsets are:-

    FCM/LSM(7) lost to MZAL/HTH
    JP lost to LHI
    MJ/GP(7) lost to LDK/MR
    MM/SS(2) lost to CP/KRJ
    PSH lost to WZM
    JOJ lost to DPY
    KSH/HJE(6) lost to XC/MJ
    DA/KV(4) lost to DJ/PP

I find many of the MS 2nd round matches interesting. :)

Who will win between Yamada and Wang? Nguyen and Du? Peter and Kenichi? I'm guessing the latter in each case. And never count out Lee Hyun Il.

As for poor old Sony Dwi, it just wasn't his tournament. He's always invited to take a plane just over the 'pond' and drown his sorrows in lobster at Casa Fidget.

    XD :
Tontowi Ahmad/Lilyana Natsir vs Michael Fuchs/Birgit Michel

    MD :
    Markis Kido/Hendra Setiawan vs Hirokatsu/Hirata

    Bona/Ahsan vs Rupesh/Sanave

    MS :
    Hayom vs Lin Dan

I predict Towi/Butet,Kido/Hendra and Bona/Ahsan will advance and Hayom will lost.

Three all-CHN practice matches in WS:
    - WSX v Liu Xin
    - WX v Li Xuerui
    - JYJ v LL

WSX and WX will obviously win their matches. The JYJ v LL is an intriguing one. JYJ has never been in favour but LL is not as good as her. So who wins?

Except for md, china still dominates in other events

It has been a difficult draw for those who faced CHN players in Round 1.

This is reflected in the number of CHN players who advanced to R2:

    MS:

    CHN 6,
JPN 2, THA 2 (but Tanongsak had given a walkover to Chen Long) and one each from MAS, DEN, VIE, KOR, GER and INA.

All the three INA top players were defeated: TH (unceremoniously by Yamada), SS (by Boonsak) and SDK (by BCL) and only Dino survived by beating Ajay Jayaram.

More are expected to fall in the hands of the Chinese in R2 today and the likely candidates are:

    Yamada (vs Wang Zhengming)
    Marc Zwiebler (vs CJ)
    Dino (vs LD)

LCW is expected to overcome BCL and an exciting see-saw battle is expected from:

    PG vs Kenichi Tago
    Boonsak vs LHI
    NTM vs Du Pengyu

    WS:

    CHN 6,
KOR 2, TPE 2, and one each from BUL, JPN, THA, GER, SIN and IND.

Again the Chinese women will continue to be strong but thankfully all six will have to fight against their teammates for a place in the QF tomorrow:

WSX* vs Liu Xin (*my choice as winner)
    WX* vs Li Xuerui and
JYJ* vs Lu Lan (tough choice)

The rest of the five matches will involve opponents from different countries:

    Sung Ji Hyun vs Nedelcheva*
    Eriko Hirose vs Salakjit Ponsana*
Juliane Schenk* vs Cheng Shao Chieh
Gu Juan vs Bae Youn Joo*
Tai Tsu Ying vs Saina Nehwal*

    MD:

    JPN 3
KOR 2, CHN 2, DEN 2, INA 2, MAS 2 and one each from IND, TPE and POL.

This is the most evenly spread event and is expected to be well contested. Though CHN has somehow been relatively weak here, despite their chief coach LYB being a doubles specialist, the pair of Cai Yun & Fu Haifeng can surprise, more so when they have an easier opponent in the Polish pair of Adam Cwalina & Michal Logosz for this round.

The Japanese MD and WD have made great inroads in doubles and much must have been attributed to coach Park Joo Bong who has been in charge for several years now.

But the Danish pair of Mathias Boe & Carsten Mogensen #1 will probably be hard to beat unless their new found pair of Mads Conrad-Petersen & Jonas Rasmussen shock them in this round.

    WD:

    CHN 4
JPN 3, KOR 3, DEN 2 and one each from TPE, THA, IND and BUL/RUS.

CHN remains dominant here but JPN can spoil the party for them. Unfortunately for others, CHN will not have to fight among themselves as in WS and those who face them will need to do their best to win. Even TPE pair of Cheng & Chien #1 will not have it easy.

    XD:

    CHN 4
ENG+SCO 3, TPE 2 and one each from INA, GER, IND, DEN POL & THA.

Again difficult to dislodge the Chinese here with Zhang Nan & Zhao Yunlei #1 probably winning the title.

Now we have to guess who can prevent CHN from taking a lion's share of the titles. :crying:

I also expect the 2 MD pairs from INA and 1 XD pair to progress to QF.
As for Hayom, it will be good if he can stretch Lin Dan to 3 sets.

From QF onwards, it will be tough for either pair to progress to SF.

I was afraid for Datuk at first, because it was 5-1 for Bao CL. At the interval now it's 11-5 for LCW.

I'm sitting in front of the livescore :D
