    For all BCers,

Anyone who wants to use Kinesio tape (there are many brands in the market, but essentially they are generically known as kinesiology tapes) should first study how the tapes are supposed to be applied.

Here is a snip from an e-How page that succintly sums up what Kinesiology tape is all about:

Tapes are to be applied in different ways to the same muscle/ligament/group for different purposes: either to support, or for rehabilitation. So please understand why you are using the tape, and then apply accordingly. Otherwise, you may not only not get the desired results, you may even get negative results.

Here are some resources you may tap into for more information on Kinesiology tape products, and teping techniques.

Videos on taping techniques: (a great resource)

I hope this helps you guys. Please feel free to add more information or useful links should you find them.

The way any kinesio tape works, it is supposed to take pressure off overused muscles; enhance lymphatic flow and reduce swelling and pain in the process; improve circulation to the injured areas; reduce fatigue and stiffness.

There is some chance that kinesio taping can help under some conditions, but obviously you would need to consult a practitioner for this. There is a pretty clear rule in BC: you may discuss the conditions etc, but all this is no substitute for visiting a qualified practitioner or specialist.

I did a search for "Kinesio tape + varicose" and came up with this:

    Hope this helps... :)

I've used kinesio tape for a few injuries. I love it, it allows me to carry on playing through the little niggles.

Thank you Cobalt for the useful information. The tape greatly helps to reduce my knee pain and swelling after ACL and MCL injuries 3 years ago. With its' support, I can play badminton more frequent now.

    Hello BC Members,

My name is Derrick Ng and currently ranked 29th in the world in Men's Doubles. I have been using this tape for many years but have had a difficult time finding a tape that was suitable to the aggressive movement of badminton. Many tapes have fallen off, ripped, or just wasn't flexible or elastic enough. That is why I have started my own brand of Kinesiology tape, Skinetex.

Skinetex is more flexible, keeps it's elasticity longer, and sticks longer. I also made my tape to be a blend of cotton and spandex compared to competitors who use nylon or latex. This is important for people with sensitive skin.

I am about to launch my product soon. You can visit www.skinetex.com to sign up for our grand opening discount. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at derrick@skinetex.com.

    Hi Cobalt,

Yes!! you are absolutely right. With improper application of Kinesio Tape will not yield positive results and even may cause blisters, etc. 2 important things about Kinesio Taping; firstly make sure it's the Original kinesio Tex Tape!! The original Kinesio Tex Tape is made from 100% medical grade tape and adhesive. Secondly, make sure you know the proper applications of it and if you are not sure for the first time, please consult your "Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioners", which quite a few has been certified in Malaysia. Most of them are Physio based in Hospitals.

I've tried most major brands and this stuff is dreadful. The adhesive is rubbish and it threads from the first day of the application. It would only stay on for about 2 days.

Rocktape was the best for me in the same price bracket.

If you like Rocktape, try Skinetex (www.skinetex.com). It's just as good, yet uses 3% spandex instead of 3% nylon which helps with people with sensitive skin. There's a 50% off grand launch right now but expires Nov. 10! Also, you'd be supporting an international badminton player, me! Thanks!

If you're in the UK, the best tape I've used is by a company called Sport Tape. It's great quality material and and the adhesive is very good.

I've used unbranded tape, Kinesio Gold, Rocktape, Rocktape H20 and KT Tape and this stuff is better than all except the H20 and it's £5 per roll cheaper try it here http://mbsy.co/SPORTTAPEuk/44451
