There mirror sites are up and running now.
problem is i don't know how to do the ftp things and i have 56k connection. The files are pretty big too.

would anyone mind downloading them and then burn it on to a disk and send it to me. ;)

mirror1 appears down temporarily- presumably due to the heavy traffic,
which has been 20GB or more per day. Will be back up ASAP.

full instructions for ftp are at

    http://www.worldbadminton.com/videos/how_to_download_videos.htm

Files are indeed large since they are mostly full matches and viewable video
starts at about 1GB/hr. However if someone would like to start writing and
distributing cd's or dvd's it is certainly fine by me!

    MORE MIRRORS NEEDED**************
For the obvious reason more mirrors are needed. If you have a server
available with decent disk space, bandwidth and capacity and would like
to help badminton players worldwide see real badminton, please
consider volunteering! (for full mirror figure 100GB disk space, 1Mb or wider
connection and a TB or so/month traffic)

    regards

    Stan

Hi Stan, it's me, the 'flyinpig'.

The server seems to be missing some vids that I remember from when I used to host a mirror. Have they not been put up yet?

welcome Stan.... and the flyinpig. :)

thanks guys, that's a great contribution to the online badminton community.

i am wondering though, how do you guys managed to afford the enormous amount of bandwidth for these videos?

My guess is this is coming them about $200 a month at least for a dedicated 1 gigabit connection. I'm not surprised the mirror had to be shut down... many people online have broadband now, and's a huge drain on the servers. I'm surprised you guys are still using compressoin technology from 5 or 6 years ago. Switch to Divx 5.03 and you can cut your bandwidth costs by almost 90% without significant quality loss.

    can't download video

I followed the instruction but couldn't log in. When I entered user name as anonymous, the web site prompted that 530 anonymous user log in denied.
Someone can tell me what I should do with this?

Can't understand how anyone can justify the costs unless it is a charitable donation. There is certainly very little chance of recouping your money...or is there??

Is there a way of dong a poll in this forum?

Mr moderator can we ask people how much they would pay if there was a professional/commercial service to download video? Maybe $1, $3, $5, $10, +$10

The person could then keep the video on their machine for a limited time period.

I am sure it is possible to work an agreement to get a copyright to do this.

    As Stan formulated so nicely,
Consider it a (free) service to the World's Badminton Community;)

There's another mirror online now! see

    http://www.haroboy.boltblue.com/FTP Badminton.htm

    regards
    Stan

PS- more mirrors are still needed. As an incentive, note that mirror sites
get the first copies of all new videos- and there are many more coming!

PPS - answer to some questions- resources are donated as a service
to the sport. Open stds like MPEG and MP2 are the principal formats
at this time since they are universal. Proprietary formats like Quicktime
or Divx or WMF are intentionally bypassed, though anyone is welcome
to download and convert. Intention is to discontinue this service
only after it is picked up by an "official" organization. 'Till then I'll do
what I can with resources available.

    I SERIOUSLY AGREE!!!

We REALLY REALLY appreciate all that you do by providing these videos.. but why are you serving MPEG files?? They are too big and put too much a strain on your computer!

Bigredlemon is right.. compress the files and save yourselves :)

Plus more ppl will then have access to the videos :)

    Re: mirror site

They use mpeg because it's an open standard, so more people have access to it. The irony is that fewer people can access it due to bandwidth limitations.

Hey, that site has very fast download speed! I was getting around 160k/sec and finished that video download in about 2 min.
So, since this site is so fast, anybody mind uploading some videos onto it for us to download? They look to have very high bandwidth.

Please help the less fortunate who can't download off those previous mirrors.
    :( :D

    yes ... it's mislabelled :D :D

I will try to get Stan to upload his video to that site ... coz it's very difficult to download from the mirror site and it does not resume the download.
