Sounds like your timing is off, probably swinging too fast if you're hitting the top of the frame (more common than hitting the bottom of the frame).

Make sure you stretch your arm fully when you swing.

It makes your swing a lot more consistent because the height you hit at is always the same.

Then you can adjust your swing speed and timing.

Have not played for 18 months

    .
Don't worry. You have not played for 18 months; therefore, your eye-hand coordination, timing, form, etc...... will need to take some time to return. ;););)

What do u expect!! LOL. U aint played for over a year and expect to be playing jus a good as before. It will take you bout a month ish to get ur timing back id say. Jus focus on the hitting the shuttle nice and cleanly.

Even if lin dan hadnt played for over a year, he wud also say he wasnt hitting it jus right. Dont get me wrong, he wud be hitting it lot better than us but for him, he wud say his timing was off!!

Hahaha.... Lucky that you weren't playing Badminton years ago when a 'FAULT' will be called every time the frame hits the shuttlecock. :D:D:D

You should never fully stretch/extend your arm for any shot. It should always be slightly less than fully stretched, say 80-90% otherwise you will be prone to injury.

before you hit, freeze first. let the shuttle hits the floor, then you hit. lol. ;)

use slower shuttles... or ask your hand to hit it slower. lol. ;)
