World No. 1 Lee Chong Wei has stepped forward to do his bit for charity by organising the “Hope and Smile — 311 Japan Earthquake and Tsunami” charity fundraiser on April 2 and 3.
The two fund raisers have the support of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) as well as the Japanese Embassy in Malaysia, who was represented by their Deputy Chief of Mission Koichi Ito at Thursday's Press Conference.

The Malaysian said he was sadden Japan was hit by two disasters - earthquake and tsunami - and wants to help raise RM1 million for the country.

Chong Wei, who recently successful retained his YONEX All England Open title will play two matches against VVIPs and also auction off his winning shirt and racquet which he used to beat Olympic champion Lin Dan in Birmingham.

Chong Wei, who hails from Penang, will organise the first event in his home state and he will play a match against the Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng, on April 2.

The second event will be in Malaysia's capital in Kuala Lumpur the following day and Chong Wei is trying to get Indonesia's Taufik Hidayat to be his opponent.

Chong Wei added that several Malaysian artistes could also join the event with all proceeds going towards the fund.

Those wishing to volunteer can contact David Koh at (+016-7643305) and Kate Ng (+016-2085262).

According to article above, the Penang session will be at 6 pm, Apr 2(this Sat), Dewan Tunku Geodesi Dome, Komtar. Tentative is Misbun will vs LCW, organiser will confirm by today, read tomm newspaper.

The one at Stadium Juara this Sun is confirmed that Taufik will vs LCW.

The Shirt, shoes, racket auction thingy not sure how it goes, whether it's 2 pairs of shoes or highest bidder of both venues get one. Racket, I suppose LCW used more than 1 racket during the AE final.

    Yes, madám:p. Roger that:D:

    Rough translation:

IT has been confirmed that Misbun Sidek will not be playing against LCW in the fund raising event held in Penang. They have rearranged the event with 4 uprising youngters from Penang to play against LCW on court(4 vs 1). LCW's childhood coach, Teh Peng Huat(?), will also attend the event.

LCW will also be displaying his Olympic silver medal, 2010 all england medal, 2010 commonwealth medal and Beijing Olympic torch for photo taking session. The charge of RM20/photo will all go to the charity. T-shirts will also be selling at RM30/piece. Jiang Pei Pei(?) and Biao Ming(?) will be the MCs of the event.

    The stars who will co-perform in the KL-leg of the charity event are 湯小康、黃威爾、伍家輝、Stonebay、James Baum、張永佳、Jackson Chua、Simply2、Francissca Peter、Jojo Struys、Dennis Lau、JordanSam、凌家峻 and 林建輝。

And 張永佳、James Baum、Paparazzi Entertainment-億塘、小強 and Sisly will co-perform in the Penag leg of the charity event. The charity events were initiated by LCW with the support of his sponsors. The objective of the charity event is to raise RM 1 million as a donation to the victims of Japan tsunami. The fans in KL will have the priviledge to watch LCW and TH duking it out in the Bukit Kiara Champion Stadium(someone please confirm this?I am doing some direct translation here) from 5-6m. The charge of the ticket is RM10/entry.

P/S: Sorry, I don't know the English name of those artists. So I will leave it as it is.

LCW sold VT80 that he used to beat Lin Dan in All England 2011 for RM200,000.00 in an auction for Tsunami Japan Fund.

    LCW vs TH

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let us give a round of applause to these two gentlemen who worked their socks off for the Japanese tsunami's victims.

We need more players like them who work for charity and promote badminton at the same time.

Hehe, a fun match indeed. A bit of everything. They really did their part to entertain the crowd. Thanks to lcleing and megatrend007 for uploading.

I wonder if there is a video of the actual auction itself or was it a silent auction? I want to see the dude that forked out RM$200K for LCW's racket.

The racket was given free to him from Yonex so not much loss to him. He probably has another dozens more VT80?

If not becos of good cause to help Tsunami victims, the racket probably wouldnt sell for $2000 on other days?
