All the National Associations are seriously planning and ramping up their efforts to make sure they have the most players in the highest rankings possible, until May 2012. That is when the BWF ranking of all players will be taken to ascertain which country is allowed how many players in each discipline, to represent them in the 2012 Olympic Games. At present, the Men's Singles is quite open. China occupies just 3 of the top 10 ranks, and 5 of the top 16. Indonesia occupies 2 of the top 10/16 Denmark 1/10 and 2/16 Vietnam 1 of 10/16 Malaysia 1 of 10/16 (wonder who it is ) Thailand 1 of 10/16 Korea, Germany, England and Japan each occupy 1/16
Women's Singles Women's Singles really showcases China's awesome strength. China has 6 of the top 10 and none below that level! India, Denmark and Germany each have 1 of the top 10, only. Korea has 1/10 and 2/16 Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Netherlands each have 1/16 We could well see some moves up from other players representing Japan, Thailand, Malaysia and Chinese Taipei; most of these players are at present ranked between 17 and 25.
Men's Doubles Men's Doubles is a wide representation of all the powerhouses. So anything is possible in the next 13 months! Denmark has 1 pair in the top 10 Korea has 2/10 and 4/16 Malaysia has 1/10 and 2/16 China has 1/10 and 2/16 (the weakest representation by China so far by discipline.) Chinese Taipei has 1/10 Indonesia has 3 of 10/16 Japan has 1 of 10/16 Germany and USA each have 1/16
Women's Doubles Women's Doubles is even more open than the Men's Doubles; almost all major badminton playing countries are well represented. It looks like a real cat-fight! Chinese Taipei sits right on top at the moment with 1 of 10/16 China has 1/10 and 3/16 Japan is strongly represented with 3/10 and 4/16 WOW!!! Thailand, Russia, Indonesia and Singapore each have 1 of 10/16 Netherlands, Germany and Korea each have 1/16 The current #6 ranked pair does not count, because they each represent different countries. This pair is Nedelcheva (Bulgaria) and Russkikh (Russia)
Mixed Doubles At present the Mixed Doubles is also a very democratic discipline. Almost every seriously playing country is represented in the top 16 ranks. China takes 2 of the top 10 places. Thailand has 1/10 and 2/16 Denmark has 2 in 10/16 Poland has 1 in 10/16 Korea has 1/10 and 2/16 Indonesia had 1/10 and 3/16 Germany and England each have 1 in 10/16 Chinese Taipei has 2/16 I'm sure many of you have noticed... "What lah! No MAS???!!!:crying:" Well, Malaysia, India and Japan each have 1 in the ranks between 17 and 20. So, there is hope!
With WMC retiring, would there be any Malaysian in top 25? And no Indonesian at all ( at least for now but very doubtful that there will be anyone in the Olympic)
If you look at their SS titles though, the China pair of YYWXL has twice as many SS wins (6) as all other pairs in the top 10 combined, in the past 12 months. Thats just...sad. Theres no Malaysian WS in the top 125. lol

Korea still has 1/10 and 2/16 Hong Kong, Japan, Chinese Taipei and Thailand each have 1/16 while Yao Jie of the Netherlands drops one to 17.

China don't have many MD, as they switched all the partnerships recently, same with XD. I would expect the following CHN players to go to London: MS: LD, CJ (I am not sure if they will get a 3rd, but I would go fir the complete outsider and say WZM) WS: Wang Y, Wang X, Wang S/L (L depending if she can recover) maybe Lu Lan if she can keep her CBSL form. MD: Cai/Fu, Xu/Chai ((only 2 here)) WD: Yu/Wang, Tian/Zhao XD: Zhang/Zhao, Xu/Ma, Jiaming/Tian I am not sure where I read this, but I am pretty sure I read somewhere, that LYB was only letting the CHN players play one event, so I am not sure if he will switch some more partnerships
Anybody know why for Olympics, there is rule states only 38 entries for single and 16 entries for doubles Single --> number of 38 seems strange for me. Why not 32 or 64? Double --> why only 16 Subjectively, I think double event in badminton is even more interesting than single And last but not least, why is not there any team event in Olympic?

Wang Lin is currently at 73. Other players like JYJ, Li Xuerui and Liu Xin are already in the top 16 ranks. On form, one of them may have a better chance than WL. Although I'm rooting for her! XD: You think maybe Ma/He are too unpredictable?
You beat me to it every continent has to be represented in the olympics. So if they don't qualify automatically, then the highest ranked player will be selected to play.
