the 2011 US Adult National Championship is being held in Affinity Badminton Club in San Carlos this weekend. i went and snap a few photos. notice that Tony and Halim are both playing (but not together...)
yes. yesterday he injured his knee and will have to take 3 months' rest. poor guy. i thought he would've won the whole thing. he was literally carried out.
tough shooting condition. need to pump everything to the limit. lost my touch on the first day but got it back on the second day. i need to go out and shoot more! overall i am quite happy with the results. there are a few shots which i really like. the keeper rate is much higher than before.
they have ppl film and commentate for the finals. Ben Lee told me they will have it hosted somewhere. not sure where though.
Kwun, these are easily some of the best badminton action pictures I have ever seen. Great exposure, great timing for effect and expression. Super colours. Thank you so much for sharing!
This is bad news I have seen this guy play, and I agree, he would have probably won this tournament. must have been very serious. Did you see the incident ? What happened ? Hopefully he can make a full recovery and return in time for US GPG, in July (?)
When did he switch sides? Is he on a green card? Yes, too bad about his injury. Rehab for the next little while
thanks cobalt!! i am glad that you enjoyed looking at the photos. i haven't shot badminton seriously for more than a year. it took a little while to remember how to do it. i do love some of the pics that turned out. do you have a favorite one? this is mine favorite out the bunch: dynamic and elegant. the girl in white is 13 yrs old. very bright future.
yes. he has the best technique and physique among all the players. smooth acceleration, power and shot selection. there was no sudden acute injury. he was playing fine until he complained about his knee. ref, etc came in and he limped around a bit. he tried playing a few more points after putting knee braces on and even managed to win the game. but it got worse later on and he has to give up. i was told he was in so much pain he couldn't be helped to walk, eventually someone piggybacked him out.
Almost a year ago now... I remember seeing his name in the draw for the Brazil Intl Challenge last year with a US flag next to it, so I presume around 9 months ago ish... He won singles last year didn't he ?
Hmmm... I guess I must have been out of touch. Only just noticed in the pic. Does this automatically make him the US#1 in MS?
I think he is, he is much better than Sattawat, and the rest, I haven't seen him play the guy who won (Perez) but I think Lee would have won.
i was expecting a Lee vs. Howard Shu or Sattawat final. but Ilian played really well throughout the weekend. but i do think if Lee didn't get injured, he probably would win the whole thing.
