Good news Badders! Ashaway has spent over 6 months improving its ZyMax line of badminton string. Panda and a few other BCers have tested the string (X2136/X2138) and can say it's a significant improvement. :)

    Ashaway's announcement:

    ZYMAX UPDATE
Effective May 1st Ashaway begins shipping the improved ZyMax string products.

Please carefully note the following developments:

    Strength
ZyMax strings will be 20% stronger with the introduction of a new core material. This development is especially signicant for ZyMax 62 and ZyMax 67 products in regards to premature frame breakage caused by off-center mishits.

    Pigmentation
ZyMax strings are now being produced with a new pigmenting system. All colors will be very uniform and much brighter than in the past.

    New Color
ZyMax is being introduced in a distinctive, new red color. Distributor demand has driven the development of this very unique and attractive addition to the ZyMax product line.

    String Finish
The outer finish for all ZyMax products has been improved to make the string easier to
string and more durable. In addition, the new finish gives ZyMax strings a more “deluxe” appearance.

    Hi Dinkalot.

    Great news!

Will there be a Zymax 65 or do they assume that a 20% stronger Zymax 62 wil preclude the production of such a string?

    cheers

Great news. How will we know if we are buying the new vs old string? Is the packaging different?

Reply from Ashaway: no ZM65 (aka ZMPro) until January 2012 because Ashaway wants to optimize it.

Oh goodie, in the reply, Panda gets more samples to test. :p

Wow, serious consensus here. 5 other testers Panda sent X2136 to said the same thing.

So Panda wasn't imagining things when he thought X2136 was near ideal.

is that means we can get ZM65 soon? :p

    I like the ZM67
I got the red one, but I cannot really tell about the durability since this is my first Zymax string and I only used it for 15 hours..

The new outer shell is stiffer, more crisp, more durable, more responsive and better for stringing; not as abrasive and hard on the grommets.

Exactly what my stringer said, he was really impressed by the RED one. As for myself, about performances; I preferred the WHITE string. Also the RED was not staying much in place, I had to re-align regularly.

Ding! A Panda Approved Tester chimes in. The white string was X2136/X2138. :D

The ZM65/Pro/X3136 sounds very very interesting. I was relatively disappointed with ZM62, although playability was great, 9 hours for durability was just too low for me.:) unfortunately, ZM65 is not in production yet :(:(:(:(

Lets hope the update won't be a complete failure like the current Zymax series.
Tested 5 sets of ZM67 at 24lb and none of them lasted more than 6hrs.

You've got to avoid mishitting so much. :p:)
My zm67 can last for 6 months of 4 hr/wk play.

most beginners can do the same, lol, kidding.
But seriously, when I use yonex string, I consistently get 6weeks use. Zymax might last 1week if I'm lucky.
