so i think this new MBS clamp is a winner. i have changed my flow to use these for both mains and cross. replacing my old MBS, Alpha and Yonex clamps. the reason is as follows.

it works for both main and cross. yes they are thicker than the old MBS and Alpha. but main is not as sensitive to clamp jaw thickness. but at the same time, they are small and lighter than the old MBS and Alpha clamps. which means if i clamp from below, i have more room to work with (my WASE is quite shallow), or if i clamp from top, it is not so heavy it will tip over. also the rounded teeth means inserting is smooth. inserting Yonex ones into main is not smooth.

for cross, it only slightly thinner than Yonex and works OK with the wide cross spacings. the fact that the teeth are rounded means that inserting into the string bed is very smooth.

clamping power seems to be quite good. no sign of the rough surface grinding off or marking the string coating yet.

the only downside is that it take more force to open up the jaws. which may or may not go away after more uses.

From the picture, you can see the quality difference between YY and it's copier. If you are just looking for lower tension, I think AEF will do. If you need higher than 30lb, Don't settle for the imitation.

Not really true .... AEF can handle above 30lbs as well as Yonex did.
I got the info that MBS are using AEF ....

So the new one is orange 5 tooth, and the 6 tooth black one is the older one? I'm wondering which to go for and trying not to just get the orange ones because they are orange. There's only about 10 difference in price so I don't want to go for cheaper and regret it.

    Cheers.

edit: bit of a necro - not sure if sorry as google found this for me.

The black ones are better for mains and the orange ones for crosses.

I have all of them and I'm not particularly fond of the Yonex ones. They are smaller than the MBS ones, but I think the MBS ones are just as good.

Thanks again pilot. Some actually prefer the MBS clamps I read. Doesn't make my decision any easier!
