    Over the last few weeks, there have been several Professional Players and National Associations who commented that they don't like the BWF skirts-only rule which will take effect at international events on 01-June 2011.

    From Tine Baun;

    * “Can you ask men to wear a particular dress and play?"
    * “Each player knows his or her comfort level, and you should not decide what is good for them.”

    This is not a very 21st-century approach

    .
    From Indian Doubles specialist Jwala Gutta;

    * "You cannot make it compulsory for everyone to wear skirts.”
    * “It depends on each individual and their comfort level. I am not sure people will like being told what to wear and what not to.”

    From India’s National Commission for Women and Britain’s Olympics Minister Hugh Robertson;

    * “Athletes should be the ones who decide what they wear on court. This is not a very 21st-century approach.”

    We have to feel comfortable while playing

    .
    From Imogen Bankier;

    * "You can't make demands like that to make women more glamorous."
    * "It is our right to choose what to wear on court and I will certainly fight to make sure this dated and simply sexist rule doesn't happen."
    * "It is ridiculous; tennis certainly doesn't have this problem so why should we have to put up with it."

    From Vita Marissa;

    * "The point of going into competitions is for us to be champions, and we have to feel comfortable while playing."

    From Li Xuerui;

    * "I did wear a skirt in the All-England tournament (2011) month but it was so big that even affected my performance."

    From Badminton Asia Confederation Vice-President Syed Naqi Mohsin;

    * "The BWF states that the new regulation will not discriminate against any religion or beliefs. How can wearing skirts not clash with the religious beliefs of female Muslim players?”

    I can’t see how this rule would promote the sport

    .
    From Christinna Pedersen;

    * “I can’t see how this rule would promote the sport.”
    * “What would be the next step? T-shirts with thin straps that stop at the navel, so it turns into proper beach volley style?”

    From Denmark culture minister, Per Stig Møller;

    * “It contains a disagreeable, sexist angle. I can’t really see the same demands being put on the length of men’s shorts, surely there must be better ways of attacking the apparent problem of the international interest in badminton.”

    From Badminton Denmark chairman, Peter Jensen;

    * “We will do everything in our power to prevent this rule from being implemented.”

    one of the reason for this 'stupid' rule is try to make badminton more glamorous and attactive to the global TV.
    so, the next obvious step is to ban players are too fat, too short and too ugly, may be. at least that can be applied to both sexes.
    how about girls with short hair, definitely a no no, men with long hair or not much of it?
    yes, lets ban them all.

    66% of readers who have responded have disagreed with the mandatory skirt rule

    .
    From Badzine;

    So far, 66% of readers who have responded have disagreed with the mandatory skirt rule in tournaments despite the fact that 40% of the voters agreed that female players do look more attractive in skirts compared to 4% of the readers who think that players look better in shorts than skirts. 28% of the voters believe that players look equally attractive in both shorts and skirts while the rest of the pie belongs to those who think this issue is irrelevant as badminton is not a fashion show.

    Do you think they would give a *** about comfort if they could pick up a $500,000 check instead of a $1x,000 one as it is now :D

    And if you look back you could probably find a comparison to the introduction of the new scoring system in terms of no-voters. But rather than do it under the BWF flag and actually change the clothing rules ([IMG]) I think a better approach would be to start a worldwide league with franchises and standardized uniforms for all teams, obviously dresses for the ladies and then start recruiting players (similar to the recently started league in India and probably the CBL but I haven't paid any attention to that yet).
    This is something you could sell as a package to tv networks ... (fixed names, fixed looks for recognition/familliarity)

    Or of course the clothing sponsors should push it to promote their own brands (which is probably closer to tennis reality) ...

    If they can wear long trousers under the skirts, what for wear the skirts, might as well just wear the trousers/track pants. Wear extra garment adds weight, esp with all that sweating. + like I said in the other thread, must do double laundry work.

    Nope but good luck finding a sponsor if you won't wear what they provide you with ;) (or provide an attractive package for non-clothing/ equipment sponsors)
    On the other side you could be surprised why BWF doesn't pimp out a Joachim Persson in Asia :D (or perhaps that should be Babolat's task)

    In Asia, esp Muslim countries, there'll be an uproar if the females wear what the tennis players are wearing, just for the purpose of attractiveness. The player dont just represent themselves, but their country. There will be lots of comments on how the players reflect badly on the image of the country & should not be sent, blah blah blah. Remember the Muslim female tennis player who's widely critised for her dressing on court ?

    KKK has been critised for wearing ear ring & dye his hair striking colours. I can imagine what would happen if Msian gals wear like Serena Williams to play,cos sponsor requirement. From officials to Sports Minister to Prime Minister will comment,lol, lol.:D:p:p

    The Msian beach volleyball gals have had some comments but at least : 1) it's the requirement of the sport 2) they try to wear the least skimpy bikini, if compared to other countries 3) they are non Muslim.
    But this is also one of the reason why very few Msian gals go into beach volleyball
