What type of footwork training do you currently do? And do you do any "off court" training?

Footwork shouldn't give you severe muscle aches. You might be doin it wrong? A very common mistake that people do is that they push their knee forward instead of streching the step futher. If your knee ends up just a tiny bit infront of your heel mark you get a "movement" that can passibly give you an injury. Which again can be the pain your describe.

Also if your rather new, it can also just be an adjustment your feets have to take. Badminton footwork is very hard for your feets when you first start it. If no, i would suggest you do some squats with weights on your shoulders. You should modifie the squat abit to get it simular to the footwork. The way you do it is: You don't go past the 90 degree in your knees on the way down. You do an exsplosive motion upwards which will almost push you of the ground.

muscle aches are normal if you just started footwork training. this is because different sports can use up different parts of the muscles that you don't normally use on normal day basis. you need to give them 2-3 days to recover. otherwise, let you coach know and see what he says :)

Very detailed explanation, but if I train the footwork but tends to hurt my big toe nail a lot due to braking after stretching to the front, am I doing the footwork correctly? Or am I wrong? Please correct me. Thanks

Calvin, by off court training I mean, do you do something off court to get you in shape to play? Jogging? Skipping? Squats? Lunges? etc. Do you do something that will raise your muscle strength, to help you play better?

    Cheers

    Matt
