Because of all the good things I've heard about Bg80, I would like to try it out but I just have a few questions about it. My current string is Bg70 Pro at 24 pounds so now I'm wondering if I would need to string Bg80 a pound lower because it is thinner. Also, how long do you think it would last for me? I play about 2-4 hours a week and I hit decently hard. Thanks.
1 lb lower, sure. Also make sure you use the same stringer, as different stringers have diferring techniques resulting in differing final tensions. My guess is it'll last you 0.7x how long the bg70 lasted you in the past.
About the 1 pound lower in tension, I'm just asking if its an absolute must, I don't mind if its a little different cause I'll get used to it, but is the difference big?
Not really. The precaution is actually mostly for beginners who have not much experience with strings other than BG65. Since you have been using BG70 Pro at 24lbs you probably would not even have to reduce your string tension with BG80 to get a similar comfortable feel. BG80 will immediately "feel" more repulsive though.
If ive been using bg65ti at 24 pounds and find that very comfortable, what tension should i string bg80 at to feel the same???
I would just go for the same tension, unless the string is really thin, or not durable. BG80 isn't thin, and is durable, so just go for the same tension.
My old string from my racket was 23 lbs but i had no clue what brand it is, but after I broke it then I switched to BG80 24lbs. It works perfect for me, at first you might be like oh its too high tension but its not, its just the hard feeling feature of BG80. Other wise in my opinion I love the power in BG80 and the sound. Overall good string. Next string I'll go for is probably NBG 98 xD.
Maybe its just me but I strung some racquets with bg80 at 23 and 24 lbs, got a new racquet strung at 25 (ECP machine) and after wearing them in they all seem to have settled to more or less the same tension. OK there are many flaws to my testing such as different racquets, different stringer and using a guitar pick to determine tension. I used the BG65Ti also and basically its just a durable string. Even if you string it 2lbs more than the BG80 its still nowhere near as crisp.
