Re: preparing shuttles??
Steam them.
After that you gently stroke the feathers to make sure they're all perfectly aligned together.
Hope this helps.
(for 11 years I was trained using feather shuttles... they're more accurate in flight than the plastics...)

Re: preparing shuttles??
Thanx for the answer! I've heard from other people that the shuttle must be put in warm water (just the feathers). After that the have to be put back into the box. Does the box have to be moist too?

Re: preparing shuttles??
No no... don't dip them in water.
They may take on slightly too much moisture.
Then you'll get splashed when you hit the shuttle. hehehe...
Basically to my understanding the steaming process, is just to get the feathers to stick together properly somehow... there's no need to keep a moist tube or box, as they will be fine.
But before you play with them again, just steam them once more before you take them to go play... That's what gives feather shuttles such nice accurate flight.
Also they wont fall out as easily, as it heats the glue on the shuttle, and basically makes it stick to the shuttle better holding it down more.
I don't think theres much to do with your temperature surroundings as their are feather shuttles of different grades/model numbers to help people buy the correct shuttles for playing at different altitudes.
Hope this helps.

Re: preparing shuttles??
The steaming process is simple... if you're at home... get a kettle, and fill it with water.
All you need to do now, is leave a shuttle on the spout of the kettle, so the steam can saturate the shuttle, leave it on their for a good min or two.
Not too long, or the glue may melt away completely, leaving you back at square one... with a crappy shuttle, with feathers that fall out.
Just make sure each feather is steamed for roughly the same amount of time, and becareful as you're playing with steam, it's like fire... you'll get burned if you're not careful.
Hope this helps.

Re: preparing shuttles??
Wins... I don't think you'd really want to stand there with your hands holding the shuttle while steaming, unless you wanted steamed Wins' hand for dinner.
Like I said, just becareful while doing these things... that's all.

Re: preparing shuttles??
I put all the shuttles I will need for that night into
an empty tube. I then let the kettle steam run through
the tube for about 10 seconds. That's all you need.
Wins Gan, you live in Singapore, don't you?
Steaming is unnecessary in high humid environments.
