If those guys in BAM, BJSS and MOE don't change their system in recruiting talents

they will soon lose out to Singapore.

Mind you Singapore has a good coaching program

and now they have former great Luan Jin as their head coach


Let me share one recent incident here about this year under 12 talent scouting.

14 players for each boys and girls category were identified from the whole nation for a final selection

and best 6 will be chosen to enter BJSS.

Every year BJSS and MOE people goes down to each and every state to supposedly "scout" for talents .

This year something happens, one particular player from a particular state was spotted by one of the BJSS coach

and coach call the parents he would like to put him in the 14 players list for the final selection.

Everybody happy, the parents, the state association and the coach

but that happiness was short lived

When the parent calls MOE for further instruction and to register his kid,

he was shocked he couldn't,

the 14 players name listed was already confirmed way before the talent scouting finishes across the nation!

Surprise?

Here's even more!

Their air tickets, accommodation etc etc were all ready!

The worst part was even the parent offer to pay own expenses for the final selection, he was not allowed

So you readers tell me am i correct to say too many cooks spoil the soup?

you can immediately see the numbers are flawed. 14 candidates across all states. It sounds like they went to each state to see the juniors. Let's say it's shared out between 4 coaches. How can 4 coaches come together for a consensus? 14 kids, 7 boys and 7 girls, sounds pretty small selection group across the whole of Malaysia considering the resources that BAM have access to. I would have thought at least the top two kids in boys and top two in girls across all states plus a couple of close no.3 players.

It is no surprise actually, considering how they run sports association in Malaysia. There was also some conflict during previous years selection. It only came to light cos some of the parents are more vocal & complained to the press. One of the complaint was last minute notification, sthing like today inform, tommorrow must be at the selection camp. Parents said how to arrange esp if those from outside KL & Selangor, if need to take leave,etc, as the kid is only 13 or 14, need adult to accompany.

Another more recent one was clash of dates between Asian Schools tournament and AJC, Education Ministry said BJSS students compulsory participate in Asian Schools. After parents made plea, still cannot, so....Soong JV and Daren Isaac decided to pull out of BJSS because of this.

Actually after the final selection its only 6 boys and 6 girls

from the total of 14 boys and 14 girls identified/selected .

And how did BJSS got the 14 players name list each for the boys and girls

even before the coaches completed their talent scouting across all states

is something really done in the dark and out of jurisdiction by BAM

PJB is going to make a final decision after hongkong open nov 20-25

and until he makes that decision its still not too late

to say he changes his mind coming to malaysia because of a higher offer.

Till then hold your horses otherwise you are creating a bad name for PJB

But I hear that Kenny Goh is in Hong Kong to finalize the deal? So, we shall probably hear the official announcement (whether he comes or he does not come) very very soon.

Meanwhile, it looks like Malaysia may not be able to secure the services of South Korean Park Joo-bong as national coaching director, after all.

It is learnt that Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh and general manager Kenny Goh plan to meet Joo-bong in Kowloon today at the ongoing Hong Kong Open to discuss the possibility of the Korean leaving Japan to coach Malaysia, but speculation is rife that it won’t happen.

Joo-bong has been Japan’s national chief coach for the last eight years.

Joo-bong had earlier been positive about moving to Malaysia but it is learnt that Japan are not ready to give up on him as he has transformed the badminton landscape there and led their players to many breakthroughs over the last few years.

They are believed to have offered Joo-bong an attractive package to keep him.

COACHING DIRECTOR: Nadzmi not giving up on a foreigner

SOUTH Korean Park Joo Bong has officially declined the BA of Malaysia's (BAM) offer to become the national director of coaching but president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Salleh has not lost hope on identifying another foreigner for the position.

Nadzmi, in a telephone interview from Hong Kong yesterday, said it was unfortunate that Joo Bong backed out as the latter preferred to continue as Japan's head coach.

BAM had offered him a four-year deal but Joo Bong, who initially showed plenty of interest, made an about turn two weeks ago and decided to accept a new contract from Japan.

A meeting was supposed to be held with Joo Bong but Nadzmi said it may not happen as BAM general manager Kenny Goh had already spoken to him.

"We wanted a qualified candidate to realise our objective to win gold in the 2016 Olympics and decided that a foreign coach would fit the bill and made an offer to Joo Bong but unfortunately, he backed out," said Nadzmi.

"Our offer was based on his requests. We are not going to make a counter offer and there may not be a meeting as Kenny has already spoken to him.

"The post of the national director of coaching comes with a lot of pressure and is difficult, unlike Japan where they have a decentralised system.

"We can't blame him as he may have felt it would be easier for him to continue with Japan.

"However, we have to start looking for another foreign candidate.

"Not that I don't want a local to assume the top position but we lack sports managers in Malaysia and badminton is a high profile Olympic sport."

Problems have been escalating in the national team, especially in the doubles where the relationship has soured between chief coach Tan Kim Her and Pang Cheh Chang.

The fact that the call to split Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong was shot down by BAM also didn't help as the succession plans for the 2016 Olympics could not be carried out immediately.

The arrival of Joo Bong was supposed to solve the uncertainty in the doubles but BAM may have to solve the internal matters first.

It will be difficult for BAM to look for a foreigner of Joo Bong's calibre and despite Nadzmi's hesitance, the association may be forced to settle for a local.

it a good guess because he was here before so he can still remember

and BAM putting all eggs in one basket must certainly have some special conditions .


In Japan, the BA got nothing to loose when they first put him in charge

but after all these years with the results if they let him go, they got a lot to loose

Lastly IMHO, PJB did the right thing staying in Japan and i wish him all success!

However, having said that I still wish he comes back to Malaysia

Even Li Yongbo cannot do MIRACLES .... that is what BAM needs, A MIRACLE-MAKER ... after years of screw-ups through constant and regular changes of managers, coaches and change tactics, plans so often, everyone is confused ....

Me, personally, I give up on Malaysia ever winning ANY TEAM EVENT ANYMORE ... individual, maybe ... team ... forget it ...
