The powerball was fun while the novelty lasts... and then I stopped using it. Now I use 12lbs dumb bell for wrist curls (rotating, reversal and regular). IMO, any wrist exercise strengthens your forearm: as long as you do it regularly.

well i don't think they will hurt anything, but i also find that the range of motion the powerball trains is quite different than badminton motion. the powerball is requires a circular motion in order to keep it going.

I use the NSD powerball regularly while I am watching TV at home, crank up to ~ 10K rpm and kept it up as long as I can then slow down to ~ 7K rpm while taking mini breaks in between, it does burn your arm pretty fast. On the other hand, the old fashion brick & stick exercise is just as good or better than the powerball. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vmn5Eh80reQ

I prefer the Dynaflex powerball. The quality is better and they always back their customers up! Mine has been going great for a year.
