Good day. I appreciate any recommendation for a beginner racket + string combo that is "Value for Money". I am thinking of getting Yonex BG65 @ 21 lbs; I wonder if head balance + stiff shaft + lower tension string combo is a good starting point. Please feel free to correct/ advice me. 1. How often do you play, how serious are you? Approximately once a week. 2. What style of player are you? (Aggressive smasher, net player ...) I don't have any style yet, but I would love to learn smash and net play though. 3. Do you care much about durability or is it all about performance? A balance between durability and performance would be great. 4. How much money do you want to spend? RM 125 max including quality string. 5. Do you play singles or doubles? 40% singles and 60% doubles. 6. What is your level of play? beginner, intermediate, advance? Beginner/ Newbie 7. What is your play style? attacking, defending, all around? All around 8. Do you have power and fast swing speed? I guess I have only moderate power and swing speed. 9. What is your strength? (smash, drive, drop, net, etc?) None at the moment. I only managed to perform drop shot occasionally. :crying: 10. What area do you want to improve? (same as above) I would like to learn controlling my shot, as well as improving my backhand stroke. 11. Brand preference? Not really, as long as it is value for money and available in Malaysia. 12. In that range, I suggest you to look on Apac's racket. Strongly advise not to buy stiff racket if you are just a beginner, because you may do not have enough wrist power to use the racket.
Hi, Kaiyuan. Thanks for your great advice. I have just read through the Apacs fans forum and Apacs review post for the past few days. After searching this forum and and some "googling", I have found the following rackets within my budget: 1) Apacs Slayer 330 + BG80 @ 23lbs 2) Apacs EdgeSaber 101 + BG80 @ 21lbs Any comments about theses rackets regarding the suitability for (i) controlled smash and (ii) net play? I am open to any racket combo suggestion too. Btw, anyone know what are the differences among Apacs Slayer 220,330,380 and 550 and the differences among Apacs EdgeSaber 9, 10, 101 and 108? Apacs Slayer series is the series of Apacs own production. Apacs EdgeSaber is cloning of Yonex ArcSaber series. EdgeSaber 9 is cloning of yonex arcsaber 9 which is meant for girls and ES 10 is yonex Arc 10. 23 lbs should be fine because 21 lbs is way too soft.
This is really informative for noob like me. =P Hmmm... Since I am a guy, I think I should exclude EdgeSaber 9 from my list then. Noted about the 23 lbs string tension. Since I am a beginner who doesn't know about sweet spot previously, would BG 65 be a better choice for me compared to BG 80? Anyway, I have found Apacs Finapi 77 to be within my budget too, besides Apacs Slayer 330 and Apacs EdgeSaber 101... Any input is highly appreciated.
Sweet spot depends on the racket shape, oval shape racket should has less sweet spot while big round racket has larger sweet spot. Bg65 I never use before. My first racket is using BG 66, which maybe a good choice because the feeling is medium, not that hard. You can go to badminton shop nearby, to try the racket, swings it and feels it. Honly 's owner is quite good at giving you advice on buying rackets.
Welcome, besides Honly, you can go to Permai Sports also. Both shop selling the rackets are slightly cheaper than other shops in JB.
Try apacs Finapi88. medium stiff. 4u not that heavy that gives u control. abit head heavy that gives u power.
