I am 24/M and interested to play for fun and competition. Probably beginner-intermediate, very athletic person. I had lessons when I was younger but the club membership was too expensive, something like entrance fee+$1000/yr and if you take a break you have to pay the entrance fee all over again.
Not too many places to play during the summer except the private clubs. I think there is 1 public summer club which you can find on the EDBA website. Other than that, the city rec centres are first come first serve.
You can try playing at the University of Alberta. Check here for the badminton Schedule: http://www.campusrec.ualberta.ca/recuse.cfm Nice thing about this place is: You can play without paying. That is, if you are lucky. In the spring/summer, they frequently check if you have paid membership or not. During the school year, they never check.
