Fran/Pia beat The Sixth Seeded From China

    fran.jpg

Fran Kurniawan / Pia Zebadiah Bernadet managed to beat Tao Jiaming / Qing Tian from China in the first round of Singapore Open Super Series 2011. Fran / Pia stop the resistance from the sixth seeded in two straight games 21-18, 22-20.

"We were playing very well and enjoy the game" said Fran commented on his victory. "In addition, there is no burden too, want to deal with China or any country we are ready" he added.

Thus Fran / Pia certainly follow their partner who first qualified to the second round Muhammad Rijal / Debby Susanto and Tontowi Ahmad / Liliyana Natsir.

At the end of the second game situation was tense because of Deuce. Fran / Pia who looked tense also make unnecessary mistakes. "We had time to do our own mistakes, but immediately afterwards we dare to play short balls ang get points and eventually win" said the player from Palembang.

Indonesian best women doubles, Greysia Polii / Melissa Jauhari also finally managed to beat Cheng Shu / Bao Yixin of China. Prediction from coach Paulus Firman who had instructed to be wary of this Chinese partner was right. At the beginning of the first game, Greys / Meli was behind 0-5.

"Earlier we are late to adapt, so we was left behind" Greys said after the match. Although a new pair, Cheng / Yixin performed very well in previous tournaments Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold 2011 by reaching the final round. Cheng / Yixin firstly get in to make the Greys / Meli overwhelmed with the balls at the net.

In the second game, Greys / Meli found no significant difficulties, they led the 12-7. "In the second game, we already know want to play like what and can be more patient" she added. Greys's partner , Meli said that they were happy to win this, but still a long struggle since this is just the first round. "We're happy to win today, but must keep concentration for the second round tomorrow," said Meli.

Meanwhile, Indonesian women's singles player, Adriyanti Firdasari not been able to block the second seed, Wang Yihan from China with a score of 17-21, 17-21. Thus Firda failed to advance to the second round of Singapore Open Super Series tournament 2011.

Score Firda-Yihan meeting between now becomes 1-1. Previous Firda ever beat Yihan in Philippines Open 2007 tournament in two straight games 21-14, 21-16. But now Yihan who are rank third in world is more favored than Firda.

Yeah. I like Fran explosiveness. Pia is also good at the front. But sometimes both players committed mistakes, it's now getting better though.
Maybe if Pia has more power, combined with their consistency, this pair can be at top 5.

Yep, while in the net Pia sometimes just simply push the shuttle down and cant kill the opponent, she should push it hardly, perhaps Pia can learn it from Butet :D Anyway, Pia got a very fancy angle while hitting from baseline, her dropshot is very unpredictable(mostly down the line) and has trapped many players. Thumbs up for her defence. While Frans is so explosive but sometimes didnt make a full smash. :D

While Fran's smashes are powerful, they are rarely deadly and not as effective as Tantowi's.

And yes, this pair rarely beat the European top XD pairs.

Next week they will take on half European pair Hendra/Anastasia.. I think Fran/Pia could beat them, as i think Anastasia got the same height with Pia..Hehehe.. If they pass first round, very bright chance for them to progress till QF and possibly face Chen Wen Hsing/Chen Hung Ling.

Well honestly I think Pia is the weakest link. I would imagine Frans will be better playing MD.

PBSI might want to pair fran with hendra setiawan or fran with tantowi ahmad.. ....

Fran with hendra setiawan might be good as both of them could attack and defense really well. Fran & hendra both have the ability stay calm although they are playing at major event facing strong opponents.

Fran with tantowi might not be a good choice since i think tantowi is lack of concentration and persistence in the entire match especially facing a tough opponent who can reverse back their tactics.
If tantowi could overcome his weakness then, he will be more deadly.

Plus, there are too many MD players in Pelatnas, very very unlikely for Koh Herry IP to even rope in Tontowi or Fran into MD.

    Fran will stick to XD.
