I have been told that the plan has been confirmed, next year 2012 Australia GP Gold will be held in Sydney - Darling Harbour convention centre. Its a 3 year plus 2 years plan agreed by Australia BA to bring the tournament to NSW. Im so excited with the news (not just because I dont have to make long travel to Melb again) but its the kind of badminton tournament Sydney needed for years. Also to the fact that it will be a $200K price tournament which can attract enough big names to come, not to mention its the last BWF tournaments before next year London OG which they can use to boost their ranking points.

So I invite you all to come to our wonderful city next year and enjoy the badminton :)

Anyway, I will give more update as it comes a long

    Cheers

    .
Sydney ought to be congratulated for having the rights to host the 2012 Australia Open GP Gold. :):):)

Yes, yes, yes... Being the last BWF tournament before the closing of ranking points for the 2012 London Olympic Games, there should be more top players participating.

Congratulations! Melbourne gets F1 and Grand Slam tennis, but you get the one sport that really matters, badminton. :)

Thanks Chris, I know many people have working hard to make this happen after years of neglect by top NSW badminton officials which really dragged the development of badminton in NSW.

I guess there is a good chance as well as bad one that top player may or may not come. I think the one that will certainly come are the ones that their accumulated points are not enough or in danger to qualify for the OG. OTOH players who are already secured their place in OG may used this tournament for last tuning of preparation as well as (for CHN team perspective) "helping" their team mates to get more points, Im sorry to say that but its a fact. Also there will be players (who already qualified for OG) who will not come and use the time to train internally or perhaps healing some injury.

But all in all it will be a great event staged in one of Sydney best landmark "Darling Harbour" :)

hahaha thanks man.... it feels like justice has been done LOL, I mean no offense for Melbournians but as you said Melb got all best sporting events, and we got practically nothing in Sydney.
But we still have to make it a big success or else it will head back to Melb. The contract (as far as I know) is a 3 plus 2 year agreement. So for now its secured for the next 3 years but can be extended for another 2 years of the event is successful.

Good. I can then plan my holidays. No chance to do that when in Melbourne.

Darling Harbour should be a better venue than the Sydney Showgrounds site at Homebush Bay. :):):)

Yes both location and size wise. Im not sure if you have been to the Sydney convention centre, but its the same place as the Sydney motor show staged every year.

We need about 60 or so line judges for the tournament. Should anyone interested in volunteering please let me know. All participant will go through a proper BWF training and upon completion will be awarded with official line judge certificate. I also heard it's a step for anyone wanting to be a match ref. 16 best line judges will be chosen for the semi final and final day, so you have the best seat in the house to see badminton world big names play right in front of you. Plus you don't have to pay a cent, how good is that?? So PM me if you are interested.

    .
The more qualified line judges the better. This will also help in the next Sudirman Cup in 2012, should it be held in Australia. :):):)

    2012 - 2014 Aus Open and 2013 Sudirman Cup

BA has signed a contract that for the next 3 years, starting next year till 2014, Australia Open will be held in Sydney..:) ..and also finger cross...2013 Sudirman Cup will also be held in sydney (final stage of negotiation with BWF now..its either Sydney or KL)

Please note, this (bringing Aus open to Sydney) has nothing to do with NSW BA what so ever, this is purely BA Decision...:)
