I replaced an overgrip recently and while taking off the grip, the original grip was somewhat torn (got stuck on the old over grip). Does the shape of the original grip matter when applying the new overgrip? Or, on a new racket, should there be some sort of protection applied to the original grip if the preference is to have the overgrip? Thanks in advance. tc
On new rackets...just leave the plastic on the handle intact. Place the overgrip over the plastic and that should prevent ripping the original grip when you change the overgrip.
i´ve done this with a new racket because i dont know if the racket fit me. But i hated the crispy sound of the plastic when you smash to hard or something or take the grip very hard...
Depending on the person... If you leave the plastic on, the grip size is EVER SO SLIGHTLY thicker... And you might not be absolutely comfortable with it. I had that problem with the G4 grip.... Had to remove the plastic to apply the overgrip...
if u dont like the plastic sound, take it out and try wrap the original grip with thin 1 layer of cellophane tape. but then later will be hard if you ever want to take out the tape
No worries, just use a pen knife and cut it. Should be ok. Don't be afraid to try new stuff. It's a adventurous journey.
