Does anyone still uses those traditional chinese badminton shoes (dragonflies, baiky and bejing brands) ? I bought some but find them lack supports compare to today's sport shoes.
I have another question. I see basketball players run, stop, turn and jump on courts, how come i don't hear badminton players talking about using basketball shoes to widen their shoe selection. I'm a bit puzzled to why basketball shoes don't have gum soles? Indoor basketball games play on hardwood floor too.
for some people like me getting shb95 is not so easy. Here are some alternatives to yonex shoes. Sorry i haven't figure out how to put them as active link yet. IMO, i think some models are even better constructed than yonex.
Personally speaking, i think nike, asics, reebok have more dedicated shoe designers/engineers than yonex so quality wise, they should able make better shoes yonex.
I think I prefer design rather than for styling purposes. I have my new Yonex shoes for almost a year now and have been having this pain at the ball of my left foot (I'm right handed player). Not sure if anyone else has this problem?
Well my friend just bought those old-school badminton shoes you where talking about. It looks really....umm...."lo toe".....
It kind of looks like those "bak fan yuu"....or in english...."white , rice, fish".....
I don't think that those shoes are good for badminton because they do not have much support around the foot and ankles. But look on the bright side, it's only $50HKD....
UKplayer, i believe nike, adidas, reebok, etc are multi-billion dollars shoe sellers and i'm quite sure they would have dedicated designers and engineers who will oversee the development and manufacturing process, even if these were done by third parties. For the amount shoes that yonex sells, i'm not sure how many, if any, dedicated people responsible for their shoes product development. This is all IMO of course.

The sole pattern is changed. It used to be like waves. I used to wear these shoes. They are light, have excellent grip on the floor and personally, because of the canvas upper, I had better feeling how my feet were 'behaving'.
True that there was not support, upper part material is sort of cloth or canvas. On the outside, there is also a rubber layer on the inner part of the toe area. They do not last long, on average I had to replace them every 3/4th week. I heard that for national level players they do have better quality shoes. The look is about the same but the soles are thicker for better cushioning.
your right, i checked my mine and the sole pattern resembles repeated W's. Look like the one shown on bbeshop is the updated version of the traditional chinese badminton shoe. I feel the multi - circular rubber protrusion sole and foam ankle surround is a improvement over the previous design.
Cooler,
It's really an improvement over the ones that I used to wear. Looking at these shoes bring back good memories. Oh boy, I really start to feel old...
