Fran/Pia and HHB/MJ in first rounds of the following tournaments. Can they cause an upset and break through to the second round??

Sorry, it's HHB/YY. They have never met HHB/YY and they lost to Fran/Pia in 3 tight and closely fought games the last time they met. Hope they can turn the games around this time, Fran/Pia is a rising Indonesian pair and gained respect for nearly upsetting HHB/MJ during the Asian Games ;)

    The Star
Liu Ying out to achieve good results on home soil with Peng Soon

KUALA LUMPUR: The home fans have not seen mixed doubles shuttler Goh Liu Ying at her best yet although she has done pretty well outside the country.
And she hopes to turn it on for the fans when she gets into action with Chan Peng Soon in the Malaysia Open, which will begin on Wednesday at Putra Stadium.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying have improved since becoming the first Malaysian mixed pair to win an Open title at the Asian Badminton Championships (ABC) in India last year.
They have also done well to upset big names in the China and Hong Kong Opens last year which subsequently propelled them to 16th in the world rankings.
Liu Ying said that she had never achieved good results on home soil mainly because of the unfavourable draw or because she is all nerves playing at home.
“I will be competing with Peng Soon in the Malaysia Open for the fourth time.
“Unfortunately, we have never progressed beyond the early rounds,” she lamented.
“Most of the times, it is because of the tough draw. We always end up facing giants from China or Indonesia in the opening round. And sometimes, I make all the wrong moves.”
Liu Ying said that the scenario had not changed at this home tournament but she is now more confident of giving a better account of herself.
Peng Soon-Liu Ying will take on Indonesia’s improved pair of Fran Kurniawan-Pia Zebadiah Bernadeth in the first round. If they win, they will most likely take on seventh seeds He Hanbin-Ma Jin of China.
All of them are in the same quarter with second seeds Ko Sung-hyun-Ha Jung-eun of South Korea.
“Indonesians Fran and Pia are no pushovers. We have actually lost to them twice last year (Hong Kong Open and China Masters). It will be an achievement for us if we can exact revenge,” she said.
Liu Ying also hoped that a good showing in front of the home crowd would give her more confidence in her bid to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games with Peng Soon.
“We are now at the 16th spot in the world. Our goal is to break into the top 10 by the end of this year. It will put us into a more comfortable position going into the London Olympic Games. It is an important year for us.”
Malaysia will also have Ong Jien Guo-Sabrina Chong in the main draw but the youngsters will be facing Sung-hyun-Jung-eun in the opening round.
The other Malaysian pairs in the fray – Koo Kien Keat-Chin Eei Hui, Tan Wee Kiong-Marylen Ng Paou Leng, Tan Aik Quan-Lai Pei Jing, Marcel Simon-See To Chia Vern, Lim Khim Wah-Lim Yin Loo, Jani Sant Enos-Erica Khoo Pei Shan, Tan Wee Gleen-Lee Meng Yean, Calvin Ong Jia Hong-Chaw Mei Kuan, Nelson Heg Wei Keat-Shevon Lai Jemie and Ow Yao Han-Vivian Hoo will all begin their campaign in the qualifying tournament on Tuesday.

They lost their way in the tight rubber game again. The last time this two pairs met, I noticed that CPS/GLY have also lost their way in the tight rubber game. Same case with CWG SF and bronze medal playoff, they lost their way in rubber game too. They need to correct this weakness soon. I can sense their effort in trying to keep up with other XD pairs though. Keep it up.

    They are over-rated.

Expectations and target sets by Jeremy to the pair is something, in my opinion, relatively unrealistic.

True, they should qualify for the Olympics but achieving something big is definitely unrealistic.

Did MAS ever have a good XD pair besides KKK/WPT? It was always bleak, and CPS/GLY had just injected some hope into our XD.

with the recent average results...or bad draw??
Asian Games 1st RD lost to eventual champion SBC/LHJ
CO lost to ZN/ZYL in SF tight match....
HKO, lost tight match to Fran/Pia but upset Hendra Gunawan/Vita in 1st RD

    2011
MO lost again to Fran/Pia in tight match
KO lost small margin to HHB/YY...

I can rate them as good pair but not excellent enough to challenge the top pairs
really hope they can start to beat top pairs very soon to be our viable hope for XD..

Chan Peng Soon lacks power in his smash
Goh Liu Ying' defense is weak and very error-prone. Her bravery at the net makes her a high-risk player where everything can go right or terribly wrong for her depending on her form. (It was a disaster in the final)

Give them a break lah. Only talk about it when they win 'a couple' of tournaments. ;) No point giving them pressure.

However, if anyone got tips to make them stronger, that would be good. ;)

Bad news. They meet Tontowi/Lilyana in the very first round of the All-England.
