That was likely just propaganda. We know that China is good at it.

*However*, having said that, it's not unusual for top level athletes to have healthy respect and honor for each other. Afterall, they know that without each other's competition, they won't be pushed to their max limits of physical skill and mental strength. Adversaries they may be, but they need each other for their raison d'être.

We should think positive, but honestly: Do you think such an injury really won't affect his game?
Injurys like these, eventhough he probably can play Badminton again after 4 weeks regeneration, need some months(!) to recover. The foot is still far away from "stable" after 4 - 6 weeks. Call it "playable", but surely not full stable or recovered.

The only reason why he would recover within 4 - 6 weeks fully is: He's unhuman :D

Whatever. At least we can say it happened 2 months before the olympic, not 2 days before.

Yes, when smash LD, careful with his backhand defence. Need to net back or lift very high up. Hear this LCW???

Good to give lindan easy shots in forehand. he tends to make mistakes. Shoulder level. ;)

Can compile all these and pass to lcw or anyone. ;)

no? From now on all his opponents will practise this shot.
A net shot to his backhand follow with a diagonal push deep to his forehand corner and force him to leap back to
retrieve. And wait to see if that will happen again

Say if it takes six weeks to heal, got less than 2 wks to train like hell (like rocky balboa??). That 2 wks is make or break. No point going to olympic in bad form, might as well gamble. Unless forget London 2012, target World Championship 2013? hmmm, tough choice.

[IMG]Malaysia in anguish over Lee's injury

Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia was in anguish Friday over an injury to badminton world number one Lee Chong Wei that threatens the country's only serious hope of capturing its first Olympic gold medal.

The star shuttler suffered a "minor ligament tear" in his right ankle on Tuesday at the Thomas Cup in Wuhan, China, before returning home where doctors are preparing stem-cell treatments in a desperate bid to get him fit.

Lee, 29, had set his sights on defeating his great rival Lin Dan of China in a battle for the gold medal at the London Olympics beginning in July.

Lin has repeatedly dashed Lee's dreams on the biggest stages, including in the finals of the 2008 Olympics and last year's world championships.

But Lee's hopes were now "a distant dream", the Malay Mail newspaper lamented Friday.

"If Lee had aspired to get ahead of China's Lin Dan in a major event, that now has to be on the back-burner. Reality is, perhaps, it will never happen," it said.

Sieh Kok Chi, secretary of the Olympic Council of Malaysia, admitted to AFP there was now less hope of a Malaysian gold in London.

"We just hope and pray he recovers quickly. We cannot forecast. We can only dream," he said.

Malaysian press reports said Lee would undergo treatment that involves receiving injections of his own stem cells into the injured ankle three times over a two-week period.

The cells are used to help damaged tissues heal and regenerate rather than opting for more invasive and traumatic surgery, doctors were quoted as saying.

The cells to be used were left over from a batch harvested in 2009 when Lee underwent similar treatment for a knee injury.

Lee is expected to take up to six weeks to recover, reports said, which would leave just two more weeks to work on his fitness ahead of the Olympics.

"He will be at the Olympics but we cannot guarantee him playing top level badminton," Ramlan Aziz, the National Sports Institute's chief executive officer, was quoted saying by the New Straits Times newspaper.

Meanwhile, a former top Malaysian badminton official, Goh Cheng Teik, urged Lee to skip the Olympics as it would be impossible for him to recover and play satisfactorily.

"He risks bigger injuries and humiliating defeats by unknowns," he said in a letter to the Malay Mail.

Lee's injury is the latest blow for the Malaysian, whose preparations for the Olympics have already been hampered by a shoulder problem, a bout of influenza and a series of disappointing results this season.

If LCW participates at the 2012 OG, I am afraid it doesn't make any sense

    .
If it takes 6 weeks to recover from his ligament tear; it means LCW needs to take a 6-weeks break from his workout/training.

IMHO, Goh Cheng Teik's suggestion is the realistic/excellent one.

LCW will risk bigger injuries if he participates at the 2012 London Olympics. To play Singles well at Badminton, stronger footwork is most essential.

Therefore, if LCW participates at the 2012 OG, I am afraid it doesn't make any sense.

He doesn't have a choice. If he is fit, he will play. Last hurrah.

He doesn't need the money. It's ego now. ;)

As stated in the press, dont need surgery. LCW will do stem cell treatment, doc said its inject his own stem cells into the ankle for faster regeneration of tissue. He did that with the same doc when he had his knee injury.

Yup. LCW was crying bf the 2nd MRI cos he was afraid he couldnt recover in time to participate in OG. He trained 4 years for this, no way he will let go the chance, esp since this is his last time. Win, lose different matter

There is actually no choice for him unless he couldn't recover in 6 weeks and needed more rest which stretched past the Olympics deadline.

The country is almost demanding a gold medal from him. It has been a tall order even before he suffered his shoulder injury despite the fact that his form has dropped and his main rivals from CHN have been training hard for the eventual showdown in London.

With his subsequent shoulder injury and his loss to Shon, his confidence has been further dented. The final straw came with his unfortunate ankle twist during this TC against veteran
PG. Again he has to carry the TC burden as team captain.

The emotional and mental stress was already too much for him to bear, coupled with the recent physical stress, he needs a much longer time to recover not just 6 weeks hoping that he will be in time to wrestle the Olympic gold from the in-form LD.

As pointed out, if he should make a last-ditched attempt to go for glory, he could end up losing in the earlier rounds to a much lower ranked player. That would certainly not what his ardent fans want to witness in the most prestigious sports event in the world - the London
    Olympics.

Do you want to see him in such a "failure" state or to allow him enjoy his well-deserved rest and forget about LOG?
