Indonesian Badminton Chief Looks to the Past Ami Afriatni | October 23, 2012 http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/news/indonesian-badminton-chief-looks-to-the-past/551802#Scene_1 Excerpts: Trade Minister Gita Wirjawan said after he was elected chairman of the organization known as the PBSI in Yogyakarta last month that he would put the “right professional person in the right place.” He seems to have kept his promise. Three shuttling legends — Rexy Mainaky, Susi Susanti and Christian Hadinata — have been appointed to work with Gita to revamp the nation’s badminton fortunes. Rexy will serve as head of athlete development, where he will work with Susi, who has been appointed as a special officer for coaching and performance. Christian is returning to his former job as head of national training camp in Cupayung, East Jakarta. “This is the best team that we can form after discussing and consulting with all badminton stakeholders in the country,” said Koesdarto Pramono, the PBSI new secretary general. “We will do our best for Indonesia badminton but we will also need all the support that we can get.” Susi, 41, was the women’s singles world No. 1 in 1990s, a decade in which Rexy, 44, and partner Ricky Subagja, dominated the men’s doubles. Ricky was appointed as head of the PBSI’s public relations and social media department. Christian, 62, was one of badminton’s greatest doubles specialists from 1970 to 1986. In the coaching world, Rexy is regarded as one of the best. He helped the sport flourish in England while coaching there from 2000 to 2005. Rexy then moved to Malaysia and coached the men’s doubles team of Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong to the top of the world. Koo and Tan won the 2006 Asian Games gold medal in Doha and the 2007 All England title. Since April, Rexy has lived in the Philippines after taking a coaching job. He declined to comment on his new position or whether he has broken his contract with the Philippines Badminton Association. Susi, who won the 1992 Olympics gold medal, has been coaching at a club since retiring in 1998, while Christian has taken several coaching positions in the national camp since 1990. “I think the PBSI is making a great breakthrough,” Simon Santoso, the country’s top men’s singles shuttler and world No. 5, said on Monday. “I hope they can improve badminton here. They all are former great shuttlers, they know what we, shuttlers, need to do in order to improve our games.” Markis Kido, the 2008 Beijing Olympics men’s doubles gold medalist who quit the national camp two years ago, also saw a brighter future ahead for badminton in the country. “I’m happy to see former shuttlers are given crucial positions in the association. I will certainly help them, if they ask, to bring back our glory days,” Markis said.
This article is in Indonesian but has picture of the new team. Of course none of the 3 Olympic champions are in the picture http://sport.news.viva.co.id/news/read/361363-tiga-juara-olimpiade-masuk-susunan-pengurus-pbsi
Ookay, I know the analogy I'm about to write is not quite appropriate, but here it is... Mr. Gita, I know your activities & schedule as Trade Minister is quite hectic. I can understand that you cannot put 100% for your new position. I suggest do it like Genghis Khan. While you're away doing your duty as minister, put absolute trust in your "generals". Allow them to make decisions on their own, grant them a great deal of autonomy in making command decisions. From what I've learned, it's the key for Mongol Empire's successful military campaign. Come once for a while to see what's going on, and when you find things become a bit... haywire, it's up to you on how to solve it: Solomon-style or Stalin-style.
Me too, only know his name is Rudy Yup, also straight-forward and informative Hopefully it will be realized, most important target is Rio 2016. Another news-article... New PBSI plan to overhaul RI's badminton Musthofid, The Jakarta Post, Jakarta | Sports | Tue, October 23 2012, 9:00 AM http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2012/10/23/new-pbsi-plan-overhaul-ri-s-badminton.html
wow, Rexy Mainaky.. that's surely a big surprise also with susi susanti and christian hadinata, that's a dream team for me
Read this http://olahraga.kompas.com/read/2012/10/22/13494440/Rexy.Sempat.Bertemu.Gita.Wirjawan Kompas asked how Rexy can divide his time for the 2 jobs(countries). He just answered "don't know yet" I think he already agreed to do 2 jobs. Not yet dream team. Wait for the announcement of coaching staff.
Rexy can use skype or other web conferencing. Hahaha I think Guus Hiddink once had 2 jobs at the same time, Chelsea and Russia.
Yes, Nusron Wahid is still a DPR member. He is originally from Kudus and a friend of Hariyanto Arby, Eddy Hartono, etc. [who are also from Kudus]... He volunteered for the job, with the very intention ensuring that enough fund will flow to PBSI from Indonesia's APBN [national budget]...
To be exact, Pak Gita won 31-2, not 21-2 No no, that advertisement was not a mere congratulations message, but a vivid message of endorsement by 30 provinces + 1 vote from the old PBSI management for Pak Gita... Many people in the public do not know that Pak Gita won over 'that guy' in a lopsided manner. 'That guy' is still clamoring that he got cheated in the election voting... Well, it is not even close...
