The fact that it's the racket he won the all england with makes it just a bit more valuable than the other 20 in his closet... Ya, he didn't pay for it but what difference would that make?

Regardless of whether he paid for the racket or not... or how much it would sell for otherwise, the fact is that he did not have to do it and he raised a lot of money for some people in sore need of it. In the end, do you think that the people he helps to feed or shelter will care how the got the money?

Thats why I think he is a smart guy. He didnt actually contributed much in material sense. Items he contributed actually meant nothing much to him but it brought him much admiration from the public.

This uncle from Pahang is the one madbad. It's not silent auction it seems. On tv news, can see people standing/raising their hand to bid.

It's fortunate how famous people can, if they try, make big money for charities without actually having to spend their own money. The famous folks who deserve complete admiration are those who both use their fame to give to charity AND who give part of their own fortune.

    mail43249 what is your problem?

Ok in your eyes he didn't 'contribute much in a material sense' but at least he did something and used his 'celebrity' for a postive cause.

I don't think he want a cent from that sell...all of it will be donated to the victims...of course he got nothing to lose but also nothing too gain...you can criticize him as he want to profit from it..
the thing that we want to focus here how much his celebrity status has helped the cause...and recall back..he got that celebrity status not for free..only after he 'sweated blood' n his high determination...those hv to be admired even from you...
about the amount, maybe the buyer already determined to donate that amount n just think that racket as a present..we dont know but since this auction has nothing to do with u, so think positive....
the main thing is the victims have a lot to gain...

It's true that he didn't contribute much in 'material sense' but the effort and time he put in to raise such money is something very admirable even though I am not a fan of his.

And I don't think he needs more publicity by spending so much time organizing such an event considering he is already a megastar in Asia and highly regarded in other part of the world. I think he can earn much more than he raised in this event by just playing in Chinese badminton league and shooting commercial than organizing this charity event. In short, he has not much to gain from this but the victims will be very please with his effort.

Incidentally, I am from Asia. So I kinda understands that there are always guys like you out there who want to criticize just for the sake of criticizing. But hey, at least LCW did use his status to help the victims. What have you done other than sitting behind the screen and typing something that contribute absolutely nothing(not even in a spiritual sense) to this thread?

I think megatrend007 heard you:D. Here's an edited video for the auction. If I read correctly, that gentleman who bid RM200,000 was a business man involved in palm oil business.

Credit to both megatrend007 and KingSpinning for their excellent videos.

Haha, megatrend has good ears! :) Good stuff and thanks

The auction was just as entertaining as the match itself :). Too bad we couldn't see the chap with the big booming voice who bid for the 2 rackets at the end.

It takes a great person like LCW to think of this fund raising event

    .
It's great to see so much money have been donated to the Japan Earthquake and Tsunami victims. Thanks to those donating.

And it takes a great person like LCW to think of this fund raising event.
