I think it's partly because the pros make playing the shots look so effortless; people don't appreciate the technique, stamina and training that goes into becoming a good player.

Haha! I just started playing Tennis again. Partly because I just realised this ! The cost of feather shuttles is probably the biggest for me. I can't stand switching between plastic and feather. So I've decided to avoid plastic at all costs. Unfortunately those costs are quite high . That and how incredibly difficult it is to get a casual non-club game going around here. The cost to book a decent hall for an hour or so is ridiculous. As we obviously can't book individual courts... And that same cost has killed off most of the actual clubs here too. My favourite club was killed off when my own school put up the hall prices by 350%!! From $10 to $35 an hour per hall. We required both of the gym halls. Which made it $70 an hour. We played for 2-3 hours every Friday. You can probably see why our poor club didn't stand a chance... Also I think I'd like to hand people a racquet strung at a very high tension. And then ask them how easy it is .
LOL! No, I really think we should meet up and play more often I agree with you on the handicapping comment, you could handicap LD heavily and beat him but would you really want to do that? On the comment about the best equipment being the most comfortable, it is for everyone. You, me, Taufik, everyone. Again, LD is a very good example as his racket isn't the top of the Armortec range but it must suit him because he doesn't change it. If he wanted, he could have an/many AT900P but he chooses not to.
I hate the fact that some people thinks they are good and buys all these good equipments but in the end, they suck.

That would be 8. Although the 4 in the older gym weren't exactly ideal... (poor lighting, lines on the floor worn out etc.). But even if we had stopped using the second hall, the club wouldn't have been able to cope, as the new cost of one hall was almost double that of hiring both before the change! But what annoyed me the most was that soon after they put the prices up which forced us (and another popular badminton club I might add) out, we were soon replaced by the school basketball team which were able to use the halls for free (despite the fact many of our club players, including myself, attended said school)!! Now that is just typical... That's why I'm very picky about the kind of clubs I play in! Oh I just remembered one time when I was told how to play badminton by a TENNIS player. The truth was, he was the one in the wrong place at the wrong time, making all the wrong shots... he obviously thought if he could play tennis, badminton would be no problem .

hmmm. we seem to have similar trouble with most clubs. but we are blessed with massey university's awesome rec center. they let you book individual courts for up to 2 hours. $7 entry which also lets you use the showers, weights room, squash, rock climbing etc. it's pretty good. students get it free, which is a massive bonus. badminton is rather underrated. however, it's pretty expensive everywhere else. in china, with living expenses and wages considered, it's pretty much the same price, sometimes even more expensive at good clubs. the only difference is the massive amounts of courts (which still can't keep up with demand).
Things I hate about treads.. These two tread should then be combine since they talk about the same things. Talking about things we hate. Multi tread on same subject must be one of them
good equipment is better because you can grow into it and your faults are now not hardware based but more skill based. good equipment can give you just that little bit of edge though i dont brag about my stuff all the time i do think its important. i also hate: - people who threaten there racket carelessly and throw it away etc.. - feather shuttles hugely expensive, my club cant afford them - people who think its a camping sport - teammates on a pretty decent lvl but dont know **** about stringing, tensions, materials, shuttles, or any equipment and just take what the shopkeeper gives them. - the same teammates who dont even know who the top players are. - crappy cheap sportcenters build 30 years where you ahve to play when your out agains your enemy in competition. -
aha, i've played in those courts in palmy. pretty good from what i remember of them, not sure i even payed that time, but then again all my friends were students there so maybe they just snuck me in.
