Hmm, that's an extremely small depth of field with a flat perspective. That's quite a distinctive out of focus background.

    I'm guessing it's a 200 mm lens being used at f2.0. wether it's Nikon or Canon I can't tell.

    kwun is correct!
those donut like bolehs were made by a reflex mirror lens. the lens that I used for that photo was a nikon 500mm F8 reflex mirror lens. and flowers were about 20 feet away from me. "donuts" in the background were in fact light spots between leaves of a tree which was at least 100 feets away from my shooting spot.
i've been told that mirror lens can only produce low contrast images! but i think the nikon one is really different! do u guys know, that photo was taken in a rainny day!:)

here is one for me to share. i have been really busy lately with everything (and apologies to the many who has sent me email/PMs as i haven't been able to reply them). but last weekend i did manage to take a break with family and friends for a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe. We managed to stay away from work and computer and spent some time in the snow. we were lucky to stay next to the lake. i went out in the middle of the night at 20F weather to take some photos. i stood out there for an hour. this one i was particularly proud of.

That motorcycle bisection looks like a James Bond-type torture some BC'ers have dreamed of for their favourite badminton commentator: That Guy.

..hmm, i was wondering, does the 1DMKIII allow 160 seconds of shutter speed?? that's like 2 minutes and 40 seconds of silence..

any slr can set a shutter speed of 160s. use bulb mode or aperture priority with a small aperture + low iso.
