yes footwork is important....but also the hardest (thats my opinion) isn't skipping good for badminton? not to mention boxing....did u know bruce lee did skipping? lol at the moment i wake up every morning at 6:30am before school and go for a jog
skipping is very very good for badminton... first... it strengthens your calf... second.. your wrist... and third... it'll help in your coordination between foot and hand...... thus.... your timing in badminton will be more accurate... lesser miss hit.... and.. better shots..
Swimming NOT good for badminton I knew a guy who is in the state team, but before that he was a top swimmer as well, however when it got serious and he had to make a choice, the coach advised him not to do laps anymore because swimming is slowing down the muscles and making the muscles for badminton slower. Best idea is skipping, running, and playing badminton!!
i'm surprised NOT ONE PERSON has mentioned footwork drills.... work on your footwork at a moderate pace ... as you become more and more sure of your steps go faster... this will make u way more tired than running just be sure u dont go to fast and use sloppy footwork...but u wont have to go that fast anyway because its very tiring
Hehe LOL, I can second that . However, I also found that if you do some footwork drills SLOWLY at first with Angkle Weights, it really helps your stamina and speed. I enjoy wearing them as they help you height for a jump smash which is somewhat important as well.
Footwork drills Yeah, my only problems with doing footwork drills are: 1. Feels boring 2. Feels silly if you are not high standard player 3. Lack of court availability
1. It's only boring if you do the same things over and over. There should be some variation in the footwork drills and should be timed. 2. How does footwork make you feel silly? 3. You don't really need a court to practice footwork.
The answer is Cross-training Cross-training is the best. You can exercise all major muscle + heart without overusing one certain type of muscles + will not get bored.
okay.. letz make some sense here.. to increase stamina, itz obvious that running and swimming are the best, but u have to remember that u're doing all this to improve ur badminton skills. so if ur gonna only increase ur stamina, yes thatz gonna help u move around longer, but u still wont be very good at the game. if u wanna work on stamina and get good at the game at the same time, u might as well do drills relating to badminton. i think footwork, jump roping, and short skips or sprints would help, but i would personally be doing footwork all day and increasing my stamina at the same time
Furthermore, running is considered "best" because typically "fitness" is measured using some sort of running test. This causes people to train for the test, and not for badminton itself.
