BAM blunder almost costs Koo trip to China

    http://thestar.com.my/sports/story.asp?file=/2011/9/14/sports/9494234&sec=sports

    Excerpt:

PETALING JAYA: A blunder by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) almost saw Koo Kien Keat missing out on the trip to the China Masters, which begins today at Changzhou.

While his partner Tan Boon Heong and the rest of team left the country on Sunday, Kien Keat had to make a U-turn from the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) after he discovered he had an expired visa.

The association scrambled to make up for their mistakes over the last two days and Kien Keat managed to leave the country last night and all are keeping their fingers crossed that he would not be too tired when he gets into action in his first round match with Boon Heong against Chai Biao-Guo Zhengdong of China.

Dude, are you sure you are in Malaysia?...BAM is run by a bunch of Datuks/Datos including the high performance whatever fellow, nobody lose the rock solid jobs, and the 2 clowns Kenny Goh and Ng Chin Chai are just waiting for Datuk LCW to score the OLY12 gold, and these 2 clowns will get a Datukship....just that that naughty LD fellow screwed the whole darn thing up in WC11.

It's all Lin Dan's fault that BAM got the stick. If he had sent the shuttle out at 20-19, everything and whatever BAM do is right.

    Too busy clubbing? Probably.

It's never BAM's fault. It's always the other people.

And NCC appointing himself as the manager for MAS team to WC11 would get a Datukship (same for Kenny Goh) and takes all credit/bonus for MAS first ever WC crown, Bata James would say his high performance whatever crap put LCW over the top to win. Instead, NCC was left speaking like an idiot in the U-Tube interview explaining LCW loss. Bad boy, LD...you just spoiled the fun that BAM would have all those who are running BAM have one thing in common...they all know nothing about running badminton but they are all Datuks, power with no brains:D;)

BAM doing the smart thing: saving money for the CTC . :p

The players don't seem to get beyond the round of 16 or at most the QFs of most majors. Of course, that is excepting LCW, and KKK/TBH...

    So why waste money? :D

Another reason for not sending others...Japan is way too expensive.

For that amount of money spent, you could probably send the backups to 2 tournaments in South East Asia. Besides, those backup most likely won't get past the second round anyway seeing Japan has a strong entry, so why bother? LCW and KKK/TBH are there because of sponsor obligation I think, as those few are Yonex golden boys for brand advertisement.

The other reason being, the backup have themselves to blame. The entry list is strong for JO. So naturally, players with ranking more than 50 won't qualify regardless of whether BAM is willing to spend on air tickets or not. So how did they screw up their tounrmanets for the past 12 months? Only they can answer for themselves.

Back-up players will not be sacrificed
    2011/09/18
    By K.M. Boopathy

    http://www.nst.com.my/nst/articles/kjkwdqjkw/Article/

    Excerpts:

NATIONAL singles coach Rashid Sidek has confirmed that only a handful of back-up players will be utilised for sparring sessions with Lee Chong Wei as he doesn't want to disrupt the programme of the younger players.

...Chong Wei Feng, Liew Daren and Chan Kwong, who were in the elite squad before the two squads were merged, will be the regular sparring partners for Chong Wei while back-up players like Arif Latif and Goh Soon Huat will also be utilised.

"There has been some confusion but the training programme of the back-up players will not be disrupted. We will only use the better players to spar with Chong Wei on a more regular basis as they will benefit from training with the World No 1," said Rashid, who returned from Changzhou, China yesterday.

"Only Arif and Soon Huat have the ability to spar with Chong Wei while (Misbun) Ramdan, to a certain extent, can be utilised from time to time while the rest are still far behind.

..."Thus, Hendrawan's programme will not be disrupted as he can continue grooming the younger group. The back-up players normally have their own training for an hour before sparring sessions begin and they are put through extra sessions if needed.

    RAW DEAL FOR MAYBANK
    Saturday, September 24, 2011

    http://ssdhaliwal.blogspot.com/2011/09/raw-deal-for-maybank.html

    Excerpts:

Despite announcing one of the biggest sponsorship deals in July, it looks as if Maybank has been taken for a ride by the Badminton Association of Malaysia.

...For starters the backdrop at the BAM office still carries the logo of the old sponsor.

And most major dailies still carry pictures of players wearing the attire of the old sponsors.

...And BAM cannot even have a proper website in place, more often then not finding it's band with exceeded. And it lacks substance, relying on just news reports carried by the main stream media.

...You do not need a marketing guru to teach you about branding and looking after your sponsors, but then when officials in BAM speak with forked tongues then nothing is impossible right.

...While BAM continue their witch hunt with regards to independent players, with officials even threatening players that they cannot use the word Malaysia on their back of the jerseys, they should spend that time doing better for their sponsors as when you travel around the world it's Maybank's money you are using.

The word Malaysia does not belong to you BAM and while no political party had laid claim to it, I see no reason why you prevent Malaysians for promoting Malaysia.

Telling independent players that they can only use Yonex attire at sparring spells arrogance and vested interest on your part.

Proton knows they are smarter than the sleeping Maybank. Kudos, Nadzmi! If Maybank is dimmer than Proton, it means there s no hope for MAS badminton. The players should just enjoy their world holidays, courtesy of a generous sponsor. Live it while you can!
