PJB plays frontman in MD, so I cannot call him a rearcourt player. Even in the match when playing with injured partner, he covers 3/4 court including the front. His secret is that he started in MS, thus switching court coverage is easy. Totally unlike LYD in MS :p:p.

The MD game during Park's time was a lot more technical than during Tony's time and at present. After Park retired, newer players like Cheah Soon Kit, Rexy, Sigit and the rest concentrate on more power and speed, the technical aspect was pretty much lost. And now the PPR system made MD rallies much too short for anything other than even more power and speed :p.

Once in a blue moon you get technically adept players like Hendra Setiawan or Koo Kien Kiat (when he's not fanciful), but that's once in a blue moon and I don't think they are as good as Park yet.

Whether or not your judgement or mine is flawed, is not of concern ..... :D Park is my pick, Tony is yours. These are based from our individual observations, we cannot agree and let that matter rest.

problem with your argument is , u alway put pjb himself only in reference to the game, disregarding other players playing ability. Pjb can do this and can do that. So what? Tony is also not a power player. Your analysis is flawed again. Yes today players have more power, BUT TODAY PLAYERS ALSO HAVE BETTER DEFENSE  Tony's rallies are shorter by your account IS BECAUSE TONY PLAY MORE EFFECTIVE AND SMARTER SHOTS. SMART SHOTS ARE USUALLY EXECUTED AT THE FRONT TO MID COURT. If u can't put away your opponent quickly, it doesn't mean that player(ie pjb) is all technical and not using power. I think the more u talk, the more negatives u r putting on PJB. Pjb rallies are long likely because his shots are not effective and/or not threatening enough.

To say sigit is a power player show your understanding of the game. Sigit is a creative and deceptive player first. He is top in making trick shots.

is that your rationale in proving something?

He is and therefore I am? LOL

    here is your case.

You saw pjb play frontman in MD
I cannot call him a rear court player
THEREFORE, pjb is the best frontman

    LOL

Yeah, that really cares. I see many people here live in the past.

The best frontman is LYD and HS is following right behind him. Jus check the videos between their recent games of THIS year. :)

Yeah, you know the history very well! To tell the truth in the perspective of performance, no one can catch up with PJB, who is on the Guinness World Record because of that. If Koreans participate in this thread, they can pronounce more about him. TG was just MD specialist.

Oh, sorry it's not likely if we relect his recent games. They have been losing most games when they come to the rubber set. (It became my routine that I cheked it.) Why? Just because they got older and losing their concentration power and speed.

    thanks for the links.

on the korea vs china, i see pjb playing regular MD rotation with his partner, nothing at all telling us pjb is a specialized frontman players.

on the INA vs korea, it is so obvious that the preferred formation of the INA pair is Tony at the front and Candra at the back. This is sooooo obvious.

it's quite hard to debate who is the greatest of all time (in doubles), that's why it is better to ask who is the best with a narrower definition. In this thread, it is about who's the best frontman. We could also ask who is the winningest player, best stroke, quickest, most flexible, best stamina, best power or having best mental focus because we all know no 1 player can possess the best of every feature. So far, nothing presented that indicate pjb is the best frontman. Using his statistic on number of titles won, partners success, event played are all side points. No one yet show me the meat (as coined by lazybuddy) that say pjb is the best frontman.

    ^^Don't look at me..^^

[IMG]..(are you baiting me to come to TG's defense as being the "best frontman" in MD??)..:p
As to the argument of PJB or TG being the "best frontman" in MD, I'm just providing some facts & being your assistant in searching for those videos, cooler (i thought it's your task to search for those videos and put them in the "Suggested Videos" thread??)..;)

Anyway, we've gotta ask the thread starter on what criteria(s) makes the "frontman". And yes, it's quite difficult to "judge" this category. Do we label the "best frontman" as one who plays the majority of the time at the front/fore court??
I think how many titles or the number of wins are pretty good indication of how successful a doubles player is. Unfortunately, I certainly wasn't following PJB's and/or KDM's era, thus i have to rely on our more veteran BCers who've followed & witnessed their careers.;)

Just drop by a library and look up the Guinness Book, then you're gonna know who's on there and why. PJB the Best. He coached ENG, MAS, and now JPN. What about TG?
