Hahaha... I suppose this colour combination is the closest match to England's colours of White and Red.

Hahaha... Isn't the KOR team whose current attire colour is, more often than not, changing to purple?

Maybe badminton will be making the news with this pool play if there was somehow a 3 way tie in a group and they had to draw lots to see who advances! :O

But that would be pretty bad to let the hopes of a player depend on a draw of lots.

Oh well, it is highly unlikely. It doesn't even happen in FIFA WC's and it's easier for 3 way draws in there.

In a pool of 3, if there is a 3-way tie?

    .
    You are correct. :):):)

In a pool of 3, if there is a 3-way tie (win 1, lose 1, same total points won), to whom would the winner be awarded?
    :confused::confused::confused:

Womens Football made BIG News for being the first sport to be played at this 2012 London Olympics.

First matches will be on Wednesday 25-July, 2 days before the Opening Ceremony.

    BTW, this is a good link to follow this Olympics;

If it is 1 win 1 lost each, then it goes by games, then by points. So it's rare to have a 3 way tie still with points. If somehow that happens, they draw lots.

Yes, it's rare to have equal wins in matches, games and points. But it could happen.

If they need to draw lots; IMHO, it would be cruel. :(:(:(

    "Drawing Lots" is cruel

    .
It has happened before in one of the local tournaments that I was in.

And they applied "Drawing Lots". Since then, I suggested a 'mini' tournament:- Rematch with games up to 3 or 5 points.

But nobody supported my suggestion.:eek::eek:

Basketball player Yi Jianlian will be CHN flag bearer

    .
What thestar posted was incorrecr. Basketball player Yi Jianlian will be CHN flag bearer.

    Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-china-18993809

    BBC News

    2012 London Olympics: 2.13m Yi Jianlian is China's flag-bearer

China has picked basketball player Yi Jianlian to carry its flag at the London Olympic Games opening ceremony.

The 2.13m (7ft) NBA player will continue a tradition of Chinese flag-bearers coming - since 1984 - from the men's basketball team.

The team announced the decision at the flag-raising ceremony in the Olympic Village.

Officials hinted earlier the job would go to a "tall, handsome and influential" athlete.

"We can now tell everyone that the delegation's flag-bearer is China men's basketballer Yi Jianlian," Reuters news agency quoted Xiao Tian, China's deputy chef de mission, as saying.

Mr Xiao admitted there were multiple candidates, but said Yi was chosen after "comprehensive consideration".

In two online polls on Sina Weibo - one of China's equivalents of Twitter - Yi was actually beaten by 2011 French Open tennis champion Li Na and Athens Olympics gold medal hurdler Liu Xiang as the most favoured flag-bearer.

But Xiao Tian said given the size of China's delegation, the job must go to someone who is "tall enough and famous enough", the official Xinhua news agency reported.

"I learned the news today that I am going to take such a great honour. I am so grateful," Yi wrote on his accredited weibo account.

"This gives me an extra boost for these games."

Born in southern Guangdong province, Yi began his NBA career in 2007. He went back to China in 2011 and joined a Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) club, but retains an option to return to the NBA.

Since China resumed participation in the Olympics in 1984 after a three-decade absence, all of its flag-bearers have been male basketball players, with an average height of 2.06m (6ft 9in).

Yao Ming, Yi's predecessor, held the post for both the 2004 Athens Games and 2008 Beijing Games, but he announced his retirement one year ago.

However, Yao is still participating in the London Games as a commentator.

Grin and bear it, Lauren: Our AUS London 2012 flag bearer

Australian Opals captain Lauren Jackson will carry the flag for Australia at tomorrow's London Olympics opening ceremony.

Jackson, a three-time Olympic silver medallist and three-time WNBA league MVP, received the honour in a gala ceremony in London this morning (Australian time).

Jackson was the subject of a betting plunge yesterday that saw flag bearer betting markets shut down in Australia.

Competing in her fourth Olympics in London, Jackson was selected by Australian team chef de mission Nick Green ahead of the likes of cyclists Anna Meares, Stuart O'Grady and Cadel Evans, swimmer Leisel Jones and beach volleyballer Natalie Cook.

She will be the first woman to carry the flag since diver Jenny Donnet at Barcelona 1992.
