That sounds very easy to replicate. It is just like putting on two layers of grip tape isn't it, just that the first layer directly on the wood is very thin and the second layer will just sit on it.
Yes, it is that simple. That is the basic wrap and you can do a few variations of your own, but the objective is to have a contoured handle/grip. In other words, the middle part of the handle is the thickest and should be about the width of your closed fist (4"-5") with the top section at the cone end and the bottom section at the butt end thinner/slimmer. One variation is to omit the athletic tape on the middle section and just wrap it on the top and bottom "bare" sections, thus saving some of the wrap. Another is to increase the butt cap diameter by wrapping a layer of cork and then wrap over with athletic tape and extend it about 1/2" to 1" to the wooden handle. Or you can omit the use of the athletic tape and leave alone the bare wood, but this will not give you the friction of the athletic tape.

another attempt, here's a pic. It looks like there's some overlap, (and also, it looks like he wraps it like a right-hander. I though lefty's wrapped there grip the other 'direction')
I use a similar grip, just not as ugly as LD also the wood quality isnt the same, when i once tried to remove the factory tape the wood splintered badly :/ so i apply a second very thin layer of tape and then the towel grip. every 4-5 times i change the towel, i also have to change the base grip 'cause theres so much glue and towel left...

Who is the Japanese guy ? Sasaki ? I am using a slightly modified LD grip, but using SuperGrap, I am switching to towel grip soon, so I want to see how it will with with Towel grip, probably the same. I have never needed to use tape on my thumb though.
it just confusing myself....my AT700 old only feel comfy when i grip like lin dans grip....but my Ti10, BS11, NS9900 feel weird when i grip like LDs. The AT700 feel more head heavy, but the strage is i feel more speed when drive and defense
It's strange since AT 700 is way more head heavy than NS9900.... With head light you'd better put an overgrip..
I have been using the LD grip, for the last week or so, its actually quite nice, if you dont use the top of the grip, then why overgrip there ? It also forces you to use the bottom of the grip, which gives more power imo.
