Found a nice write-up on the girl of conversation in the June'13 issue of Badminton Magazine titled "Tang YuanTing: The Least Athlete-Like Athlete" http://www.183read.com/magazine/article_196535.html

Google refused to translate the link. If you need a translation, you may have to copy and paste the text over. Be sure to replace any reference to "stagnant water" to "Ting".

    Some interesting factoids:
    • As many Chinese badminton players, she started as a sick kid and was sent by her parents to play badminton to get healthier.
    • She was a very good student but chose to play badminton.
    • Her provincial team put everyone in the singles program first. TYT failed to qualify for national team singles program but was good enough to enter the doubles program.
    • At the beginning, she did not even understand the coaches on doubles specific trainings. She was afraid to ask and fared poorly in doubles.
    • At the start of 2013, she was paired with Ou Dongni to play in tournaments in Australia and New Zealand.
    • They lost in the first round in Australia to the weaker pair of Indonesia veterans. From that, TYT realized that in game situation, it's not just a competition of ability but also experience.
    • (They won the tournament in New Zealand after a week.)
    • She likes reading, drawing, calligraphy and is proficient with playing musical instruments. She does not like sports other than her own sport.

It would be interesting to see who will be TYT's partner going forward.

But Ma Jin quite let her younger partner down with those net blockings instead of killer smashes at critical points of final game, at least for me personally. As the most unexperienced player in the middle of 3 world champions, TYT already played very well in the AE final. Too bad she can't finished the tournament in fairytale-happy-ending style. :(

Now that would be a very potent combination. Both are young and very skillful. Bao at forecourt, and Tang at the rear.
This is just temporary for training and match experience.

I think they will keep bao with Tang Jinhua a little longer since they did have that amazing run of tournaments and TJH's smash is also powerful, but of course it is still too early to tell with all the new partnerships. If they do switch TYT and TJH maybe TJH will partner with Ma Jin again (which was a pairing I liked).
With all this excitement about Tang I feel bad for Ou Dongni. I think she is also a great player but may have to form a new partnership now :(

I think WXL will go, but at this point im unsure who she will pair with (MJ or YY). And I think they will let Bao and TJH be the other pair. Zhao and Tian have not been in too many tournaments since the Olympics and they haven't been that great either.
As for who will win, everybody is so good it could be any pair! :D

The big question on TYT now is whether her AE performance is the norm or just a once in a life time thing.

If it is the norm or the start of greater things to come, then, no one other than WXL is better than her at this point and perhaps in the next two years.

In this case, until Chen QingChen enters the senior ranks, everyone would be salivating at the prospect of partnering with TYT. The fact that LYB puts TYT in a partnership (temporary or not) with his golden girl YY, says volumes.

Despite of MJ' letting TYT down at AE, she is one of best potential partners for TYT at this point. BYX is a possibility but it makes no sense to break up her partnership with TJH given their current success. YY is not a bad choice and it also comes with the special benefit of LYB's preferential treatment which would help a young player greatly.

Then again, if TYT bombs in the next few tournaments, she would be back with Ou DongNi and start the climb again from the bottom.

MJ/TYT withdrew from Swiss Open. So we will see her next time in India playing with YY.

Meanwhile, after coming second at China International Challenge last month, Ou DongNi will team up with Xiong MengJing again at the Malaysia GPG in two weeks. Xiong MengJing is like Cheng Shu, not all that dissimilar to TYT but not the complete player that TYT is.

It was reported that YY told her mother "not to worry", because her partnership with TYT is temporary.

After being carried to another title, YY, and more importantly, LYB, may have other thoughts?

TYT will partner with Huang YaQiong at Chinese Taipei Open. It is getting too hard to keep track of TYT's partners. Maybe she should have her own thread.

It was so disappointing not to see her at the IO final. However, according to her microblog, MJ has carried an injury through out the tournament.

Here's her take on her Indonesia experience:

TYT actually seems like the best backcourt player after WXL. Maybe TYT should play with ZYL!

I wonder where's her partner, Ou Dongni? She isn't too shabby as well, although her results aren't as good as Tang Yuanting.
