Bao Chunlai reminds me to one of indonesian legend (Eddy Kurniawan - now TOPPRO Boss)..also Foo Kok Keong....they are all good players, played so well, and on top form they will be able to beat top players at their era, ex. Eddy Kurniawan beat Yang Yang more than Icuk did, Foo Kok Keong beat Allan BK and Zhao Jianhua.....Bao Chunlai beat Taufik, Lee CW, Peter G and even Lin Dan... But they always lost in the final....been to final so many times...but rarely won them....its hard to believe..... Just my thought...
I beg to disagree-Bao Chunlai is very different from Foo Kok Keong or Eddy Kurniawan. Foo was a fighter but played very dull badminton. Kurniawan's play was more attractive than Foo's but he would over-exert himself by vomiting in court. Bao is more deceptive and doesn't run or dive all over the court. Frankly, I don't think Foo or Eddy was ever in the same class as Zhao Jianhua or Taufik. They would be two classes below.
maybe 1 class below or less... 2 classes below? foo beat zhao in konica cup singapore finals in a thrilling 3 setter, and he was one of the badminton guys who got the point when they won the thomas cus 1992, beating Alan budi kusuma(former Olympic champion). gotta respect him for that...
i remember eddy kurniawan ... he speaks with a 'medok-java' accent.. i was watching him on TV playing in sudirman cup 1989 in jakarta... i was still kid at that time
