Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 05-Jan-2014 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 05-Jan-2014, our first CATS this year.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE. And MSAC charges the court fees if we cancel our courts within 24 hours before our session starts.

At this session, we welcomed 1 observer;
* Peeyush-U
Hope that he could be joining CCC soon.

Trainees are now to begin ALL drills with these 2 strokes :-
(1) "Low Service"
(2) "Net Return"
and then, continue with the other strokes of our set drills. Why? Because we need to train more on these first 2 strokes in a rally.

For this CATS, we went through :-
* Footwork
* Overhead Clear
* Smash.

Points to remember are;
* For 'footwork', count your weight-transfers (not just your steps).
* It is best to transfer weight forward as you 'clear' or 'smash'; and therefore, count it as "ONE" as you hit the shuttlecock.
* A quality 'clear' is one that reaches your opponent's BTL.
* An effective 'clear' is one that gives your opponent lesser time to reply; therefore, it's better to use the 'attacking clear' (also known as the 'punch clear').
* A quality 'smash' is one that passes through the GAP.
* An effective 'smash' is one that creates doubts to your opponent (in terms of direction/placement and speed). Smashing with full power at the same spot all the time is not that effective.
* etc, etc, ......

If trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught, please ask me questions next session (to give you info/demo that you require).

For our observer, Peeyush-U, he might not know that our CCC CATS conducts a program which takes around half-a-year to complete. This is to cover all topics mentioned in Post #1, namely;

* For the 'Bounce/Tumble/Spin', the racket-head goes horizontal.
* The 'Bounce' is around 20cm from the sweet spot.
* For the 'Tap', the racket-head goes down.
* For the 'Swipe', the racket-head goes up.
* For the above strokes, the 'shinning' is controlled by your index finger or your thumb.
* For the above strokes, use the 'longest-reach footwork' method.
* Use your non-racket arm to balance.
* Correct 'toe-pointing' to avoid rolling your ankle.
* It's best to spin when returning a cross-court net-play from your opponent.
* Tapping hard will send the shuttlecock to your opponent's partner.
* etc, etc, ......
