Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 23-Jun-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Sunday CCC CATS at MSAC on 23-Jun-2013.

We thank trainees for removing themselves from our 'Booking List' when unable to attend; therefore opening up vacancies for new trainees wishing to join us.

Reminder :
If you are unable to attend, kindly remove your name ASAP so that others can replace you, otherwise you will be fined. Why? Because there could other CCCers wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours), but finding themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE.

At this CATS, we welcomed 2 new trainees ;
1. Pam-B
2. Alex-B
Hope they had enjoyed training with us.

Alex-K has returned from Canada. But she would going back to Canada in 2 weeks' time.

On such a cold morning, we conducted the topic on the 'Overhead Forehand Clear'.

Some points to remember :
* For the 'Overhead Forehand Clear', we have a target - the 'Back Tram-Lines'. It requires accuracy.
* For accuracy, we need to know the speed of the shuttlecock and at where we are hitting from.
* For direction, the 'follow-through' is most important.
* For longer length, hit at your 'point-of-impact' around 11:30 and have your 'transfer-of-weight' forward.
* More 'wrist-action' is required to add more power into the shot.
* Note : "Because it is best to do an 'Overhead Clear' that allows minimum time for the receiver to reply", therfore have your 'maxima' around one metre above your receiver's highest reach.
* etc, etc, ......

I feel that some trainees are still not understanding the lesson taught here. Please ask me questions next session (to answer any doubts that you have).

Comments on our 10 attending trainees:
1. Richard-L needs better 'grip-control'. The 'shining of the racket-face' is not properly directed. The 'point-of-impact' is too often at 12:00 o'clock.
2. Chong-S also needs better 'grip-control'.
3. Tracy-T is improving with better 'wrist-action'.
4. Timothy-T is learning to control his power required to hit the target area.
5. Alex-K is also learning to control her power required to hit the target area.
6. Mario-P needs to have more 'transfer-of-weight' forward when hitting.
7. Sam-P, being new, is doing OK.
8. Merinda-N, being new too, is also doing OK. However, better 'grip-control' is found a problem. More training for this is required.
9. Pam-B, on her first lesson, is doing extremely well.
10. Alex-B, on his first lesson, is doing OK.

We shall not post out our next Booking List for trainees to book in. It shall be posted out later.

Why ? MSAC sent me this message : "Due to the Badminton Vic International Tournament all courts will be unavailable on Friday 28th, Saturday 29 and Sunday 30th June."

MSAC told us that we can get courts on Saturday (29-Jun-2013) 10am-12 noon

MSAC told us that we can get courts on Saturday (29-Jun-2013), but not on Sunday (30-Jun-2013).

Hi Chris,

Thanks for letting me know about the change of day to Saturday.

Unfortunately, Alex cannot play on Saturday as her mother is flying in from Toronto at this time.

That means that we probably will not see you again before we travel overseas next week.

Thanks for all your help with Alex's coaching.

She loves badminton and will definitely continue to play when we get to Toronto.

Some notice/info :

1. We are moved to the Table Tennis hall because the 2013 Victorian International tournament is using our usual courts.

2. Because of the bright overhead lighting at the Table Tennis hall, our CATS will be on lessons for lower shots (Service, Net-Play, Dab, Drive, Push-Shot, etc, etc...).

3. Watching 2013 Victorian International tournament is free. I encourage trainees to stay back to watch some matches after our CATS.

4. Pam-B and Alex-B will be away (visiting Singapore).

Saturday CCC CATS at MSAC on 29-Jun-2013 (A Short Report)

Here is a short report for our Saturday CCC CATS at MSAC on 29-Jun-2013.

At this CATS, with the bright overhead lighting at the Table Tennis hall, we had lessons on lower strokes (Service, Net-Play, Bounce, Spin and Tumble).

Some points to remember :
* For 'Net-Play', we need to train to have the 'Maxima' on our side of the net.
* To do the 'Spin' and/or 'Tumble', we make contact with the dotted lines (as drawn on the cork).
* For better accuracy, have the 'point-of-impact' at eye-level.
* For 'Footwork', arriving with the 'longest reach' is best.
* 'Follow-through' is minimal. Stroke length is short.
* etc, etc, ......

Comments on our 2 attending trainees:
1. Timothy-T is doing well; 'Footwork' to the net is getting faster.
2. Mario-P needs to have shorter stroke length; and to have the 'point-of-impact' at eye-level. Better 'grip-control' needs more practise.

After our CATS, we went over next door to watch the Victorian International tournament.
