LCW sustained injury. Looks pretty serious. http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Bad...d-Chong-Wei-may-also-miss-World-Championship/ http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/...s-out-of-commonwealth-games-with-thigh-injury
http://www.thestar.com.my/Sport/Badminton/2014/07/05/Injured-Chong-Wei-may-also-miss- This is what Rashid said: “He was sad to give up the chance of winning the Commonwealth Games title for the third time in a row,” said Rashid. “This is also probably Chong Wei’s best chance to win at the World Championships as China’s Lin Dan failed to qualify while Chen Long has not been in consistent form. “Chong Wei has been carrying the injury even before the Thomas Cup Finals (in New Delhi in May). It became worse at last month’s Japan and Indonesian Opens and during training recently. “Chong Wei doesn’t like to show the pain of his injuries. He is mentally strong. “The hectic schedule has taken its toll on Chong Wei. This year alone, he has been slated for about 16 tournaments. He has been playing regularly and with consistently good results. “He is tired and needs a break. Hopefully, he will have a good rest now and be ready for the World Championships.” What an unfortunate shame. His best chance to win the WC title this year but now it is doubtful.
can someone remember the last time for a major tournament that he was not 'the best chance to win' and not got 'injured' just before the start? another standard smoke screen from the 'management' to cover their back sides if you ask me.
i remember on 2010 WC edition when he simply lost to Taufik Hidayat, at the same time Lin Dan lost to Park Sung Hwan... that year should be the greatest chance for Chong Wei to win WC but he failed...
exactly, the best chance was after LD's lost and the 'management' didn't knew that beforehand thus the smoke screen not needed.

it is either smart management, or total failure to manage this aging player by sending him to too many tournaments. if indeed turned out to be true, then LCW is destined to not deliver the first ever WC to a nation that so desperate for one, when pretty much all other major badminton nations (including smaller but upcoming ones like Thailand and Japan) have already secured one already.
I think part of this is due to the awkward situation LCW in. If he, or BAM, is selective about which tournament to participate, he might not be able to keep his No.1 WR. He has been grilled, probably since the 2008 OG, for not winning a World, Asian or Olympic Games. I can't imagine what people would do to him if he lose his No.1 WR too.
For LCW to lose his WR1 title is only a matter of time, though it'll take a little longer before his younger and able adversaries will eventually take over. But for him to win a world title like the WC or the OG and be remembered in the record books, he doesn't have the luxury of time to delay longer. He has to strike while the iron is hot!
Yeah, he can either put himself in the record books or burn himself while trying to handle that hot iron.
