But that won’t make the coaching legend’s job any easier as he aims to stop our shuttlers’ staggering decline. Hadi accepted the Indonesian Badminton Association’s (PBSI) offer to head its athlete development department, signaling an important first step in the country’s attempt to regain its status in world badminton. “I’m ready. This will be a great challenge for me, but I love challenges,” Hadi said on Wednesday. He has prior experience in developing athletes in his position as deputy head of the same department in the early 1990s. Shuttlers Can’t Skirt New BWF Regulation Ami Afriatni | April 11, 2011 For some female Indonesian shuttlers, a mandatory dress code issued by the Badminton World Federation might not exactly suit their playing style. The BWF will require women’s players to wear skirts instead of shorts in its tournaments beginning next month as a way to “boost badminton’s profile.” Not everyone has entirely welcomed the ruling, however. India Super Series Could Act as Dress Rehearsal for Controversial Skirt Rule Mumbai. Skirt selection could be as crucial as shot selection for the female shuttlers when they hit the court for this month’s India Super Series in New Delhi. Taking a cue from tennis, the Badminton World Federation has introduced a new dress code, which comes into effect from May 1 and requires all female players to wear skirts or dresses in Grand Prix tournaments and above “to ensure attractive presentation of badminton.” Players may continue to wear shorts if they wish to but it has be underneath a skirt, as some shuttlers already do. Those affected by the new regulation would include Saina Nehwal, the top seed in the April 26-May 1 India Super Series, even though the world No. 3 is not losing sleep over the issue. “I think it’s OK. Playing in skirts is not an issue,” the Indian player said. While the BWF hopes the move will bring more fans to the sport and rope in more sponsors, not everybody is convinced it’s the right way forward. Jwala Gutta, India’s badminton glamour girl, has no qualms about playing in a skirt but does not support the governing body’s idea of making it compulsory. “I have no problems because I wear skirts on and off the court. PBSI Prepping ‘Elite’ Shuttlers for 2012 Olympics Ami Afriatni | April 19, 2011 With 15 months remaining until the 2012 Olympics get under way, the Indonesian Badminton Association is stepping up efforts to ensure that its top shuttlers qualify for the event. The association, also known as PBSI, is now preparing an elite squad of 20 athletes to be specially prepared for the London Games. Qualification will be tough, with only the top 16 players in the Badminton World Federation’s rankings in March 2012 in each of five divisions qualifying automatically for the Olympics. “We will give them the special attention an elite squad needs,” Hadi Nasri PBSI’s head of athlete development , said on Tuesday. “Better nutrition, better training and more international tournaments. Everything to improve their performance.” Hadi said selection for the elite squad was not limited to those who were currently members of the national training camp at Cipayung, East Jakarta. However, he said players would only be considered for selection if they were in the top 16 of the current BWF rankings or they showed the potential to climb quickly to that level. Hadi also said PBSI would be more selective in sending the promising younger members of its elite squad to tournaments. “We can’t send young athletes to top-tier tournaments like the Super Series because it will be hard for them to compete against the world’s best at their stage [of development]. We can start sending them to lower-level tournaments where they can develop their games and, hopefully, win titles to boost their rankings.” Hadi said at least seven players from outside the national camp would be strong candidates for inclusion in the elite squad, naming Taufik Hidayat in the men’s singles, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan and Hendra Aprida Gunawan and Alvent Yulianto Chandra in the men’s doubles, plus mixed doubles pairing Nova Widianto and Vita Marissa. PBSI will announce the elite squad later this month. As its first challenge, the squad will compete in the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold, which is the first Olympic qualifying event. Since badminton was recognized as an Olympic event at Barcelona in 1992, Indonesia has always taken at least one gold from every Games. I agree, just send the young athletes to IC or GP tournament, they will get more chance to explore themselves and develop their games, and of course it will boost their motivation and confidence.
Yup, SS level is so competitive, tough chance for youngsters to produce good result. As we see most of them will be knocked out at first round or even worse can't secure main draw ticket.

After three Super Series events this year, Indonesia has yet to take home a title. But the New Delhi tournament is wide open after China, which has dominated the sport in recent years, decided not to send its players, citing fatigue after a sweep of all five titles in last week’s Asian Championship in Sichuan.
