    Blazing Tontowi, Liliyana Win Again
    Ami Afriatni | June 19, 2011

Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir cemented their status as a legitimate threat in international badminton, winning the mixed doubles title at the Singapore Open on Sunday.

The Indonesian shuttlers downed Taiwan’s Chen Hung-ling and Cheng Wen-hsing 21-14, 27-25 at Singapore Indoor Stadium for their second Super Series title in a row.

“I’m happy with what Tontowi and I are going through right now in terms of our play. We just keep getting better every day,” Liliyana said. “I can say we’re on fire right now.”

Tontowi and Liliyana won the India Open in May to break Indonesia’s Super Series drought this season. Compared to the New Delhi tournament, however, the Singapore Open was much tougher due to the presence of China’s top competitors.

But that didn’t stand in the way of Tontowi and Liliyana as they beat two Chinese pairs, including top seeds Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei in the semifinals.

In the final, Tontowi and Liliyana coasted in the first game, but were tested in the second before coming away with the victory.

“It was a tough match,” Liliyana said. “We failed to make them adjust to our style of play in the second game, but we still pulled it off.”

Liliyana is now the winningest Indonesian shuttler in the Super Series with nine titles under her belt. She claimed five titles with former mixed doubles partner Nova Widianto and took two in women’s doubles with Vita Marissa.

Tontowi and Liliyana are the first Indonesian shuttlers to be victorious in consecutive Super Series legs since 2008. That year, Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan won the men’s doubles titles at the China Masters, Denmark Open and French Open in succession.

Tontowi’s and Liliyan’s victory put them on track for a hat-trick of titles when they compete in the Indonesia Open Super Premier in Jakarta this week.

    the translation is:

In the quarterfinals, Tontowi / Liliyana will meet Chinese pair, He Hanbin / Yu Yang, unlike what Lilyana expected previously.

"Hopefully we will face Japan, but if meet China we also will beat them," said Liliyana who partner Tontowi and their ranking just rose to number two after their victory at the India Open Super Series, the Malaysia Grand Prix Gold, and the Singapore Open Super Series 2011 respectively.

lol, look like lilyana really on fire. :D

As expected, Towi/Butet beat He Hanbin/Yu Yang in 2 sets. LOL, Towi/Butet underestimating their opponent and threw away big lead from 19-10 to 19-19. But eventually they win it. Congrats....!! :D

They need to focus more if they want to add the ex World Champions to their list of defeated opponents tomorrow.
