It proves that among CHN elite top 4, anyone can out the other...WX losing to JYJ, WL and now WSX in finals. CHN top 6 - WX, WSX, WL, JYJ, LL and WYH...only 2 makes AG WS team and 3 makes OLY team...life is tough, constantly looking over the shoulder to eye your comrades..the rest of the world, a piece of cake, no problem.
Yeah, she lost to her compatriots (three Wangs) three times at major event this year, Yihan-Lin-Shixian in All England semifinal, World Champ final and Gold medal match Asian Games respectively. Maybe next year she can...
WSX simply read WX's game. After a while it became predictable. Many of WX's shots are of the cross court variety. Even as a viewer I could see when she was going to play one. WX simply ran out of ideas in the end and couldn't change her game enough to win.
..i wonder what happens when other opponents start to figure that one out, too..??..i wonder if WX's game will become predictable and suffer the same current bad patch WYH is now going thru..??..
Nah, don't think so. Compared to WYH, WX has a rainbow spectrum of strokes. I didn't watch WYH play the Euro SS tournaments. Has she introduced anything new into her game or was the opposition weak?
..i mean for WX's (cross court) shots/strokes, it might become predictable..??..but i think what helps WX in executing those (variety of) shots is her better footwork.. *About WYH, according to the tourneys' reports and the comment on WYH's thread (last page by Qidong), WYH hasn't improved much (i've watched her matches of those 2 tourneys briefly and i haven't seen much; hard to tell if she hasn't faced the level of play like her teammates). Her success (in those 2 tourneys) was attributed more to her opponents' level than to her improved play. If there's one thing which WX has over WYH is probably better court movement/coverage/footwork.
Having watched the WS final, you could see at times WSX sitting on the cross court shot, especially as the match wore on. She just knew WX couldn't resist playing them and used this knowledge to her advantage. If cross court shots are to be WX's main weapon, she needs to throw in a few other variations for it to be more effective. Re. WYH... SIGH... so, no reported improvement. Not better footwork? Not developed a go-to shot?
..ya, that's what i meant, when other opponents start to figure WX's shot selection.. *Btw ..you can see videos of WYH's 2 recent European tourneys (Finals) on youtube..you'll be the judge (consider also the oppoents): DO Final : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSdEkyMkS3s FO Final : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hi3Hxjk2uRs
WX was a bundle of nerves in the AG Gold Medal WS Match against WSX and the 2nd game final score did not really reflect the actual situation where WX was so many points behind at one stage. The fans' expectation was too great for WX and being ranked world number 1 really preyed on her. It is not easy to be world number 1 at a young age and most youngsters cannot handle this well except for LD.
I can't say I watched any of her matches yet. I will form an opinion after I do. What is your take on her recent CO form?
..let's continue in the other related thread.. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?60684-Wang-Yihan/page92
It wasn't impressive performance by WX in the recent MO & KO 2011. And she have added Sung JH from Korea as the one of the two players who ever beat her in international tournaments (not including her teammates). I hope she will bounce back soon.
I hope when WX comes back on the SS court, it will be explosive once again. I also hope she regains her top spot albeit WYH and WSX pose huge threats. best wishes to her
She plays well without the pressure of being world number 1. She does not seem able to handle the expectation of being number 1. This is a common trait with some players; Andy Murray, Dinara Safina, Tim Henman are examples.
