if you just count 4,, than Malaysia should be out and Denmark should be in,,,, coz Malaysia has no ever World Champions and Olympic champions.... but if you changed it to BIG FIVE than it's CHINA,INDONESIA,S.KOREA,DENMARK and MALAYSIA
Long before there is a WC and OLY, we have AE and TC, both recognized as inaugural world championship for individual events and world team championship respectively. Sure, MAS has not won WC and OLY, and after LCW retires, it is even harder to win either one. So, if MAS is not in the top 5, how about KOR and DEN which have not won TC (only 3 nations have won TC). Top 4 or 5, seems like you pick and choose the criteria to rate the top 4 nations.
uncle otb,u stay near to cooler now?i remember he once stated his location as icy cold place haha current big four? or the history big four? mixed team? men? women? i believe england win most AE title, does they in the fray? thomas is from england i believe japan had 3 uber cup too lol if junior,i do think malaysia is in top 4,haha
i think to be fair, we need to look at recent history. otherwise, we will have to include USA into the discussion as well... Malaysia is an interesting case. the last time MAS won TC was 1992, after that, there have been no WC/TC/UC/SC/OG gold. but at the same time, they have a lot of silvers, which also carries some weight.
Denmark has won an Olympic gold in 1996, and have also won the occasional WC (in XD/MD) and have been consistent semi-finalists in TC and SC. overall, Denmark has a very balanced team.
Malaysia is out, never mind...why wanna argue on small petty issue??? Big Four just a name given by fans and supporters...
Malaysia may be a shadow of its former self, but I think its men's doubles will continue to shine in the future as it always has with world class coaches like Tan Kim Her or Choong Tan Fook showing the way, this speciality will make it even the envy of China.
Big One can already lar, no need to compete. We know which nation's flag means that no matter how unknown he/she is it's not gonna be any pushover.
I'd wish that MAS MDs will continue to shine, but recent trends have shown that JPN and Taiwanese pairs are catching up fast , I doubt MAS MD#2 pairs can beat them. TKH-CTF as world class coaches, I beg to differ as they have yet to prove themselves. e.g. Established ones would be like Park Joo Bong, Rexy and Ha Tae Kwon
tkh is not a world class coaches? hmm he discovered lyd,and help england to win their 1st ss title in singapore last year
Msia may not be as successful as China on the world stage but Lee Chong Wei & Koo Kien Keat and partner have garnered enough interest locally to generate an industry, not in the class of China's super league but in the form of : 1) Media coverage- I believe Msia's TV coverage is unparalled, every semi Final or Final is shown on Astro almost every week. 2) Badminton centres sprouting everywhere from converted squash courts, warehouses, shopping centres etc etc catering to night crowds enjoying a game after a day's hard work, despite the astronomical court fees. 3) Coaching centres everywhere from Han Jian, Yap twins, Ong Ewe Hock, KLBC, Lee Chong Wei's coach Mr. Teh,Desa Petaling,Eddy Choong, and of course Nusa Mashuri heavily represented also in the BAM coaching set-up. I think the sport in Msia is more popular than ever and growing and generating an industry, rivalled only by China.
Yes, we have to admit that's the fact right now. The title should be changed to "Who are the next 4 after China?"
