    We have 5 requests

    .
    We have 5 requests :):):);

    (1) Please bring correct change for our sessions.
Why? Sometimes, 10 CCCers bring $50 each; It causes me extra time to get change from the MSAC shop.

    (2) Please place the shuttlecock under the net at the centre of the court after your match.
Why? Because the next group of players do not know where to find the shuttlecock.

    (3) Please post here about your partnership, or for me to arrange for your partner.
Why? It is better to be set-and-ready about partnership before our session.

    (4) Please post here to inform us if you could be arriving late.
Why? It is for your partner to know what is happening.

    (5) Please allow pairs of correct partnership to commence their matches first.
Why? So that our schedule will run smoothly.

Booking List for Wednesday CCC at MSAC: 21-Nov-2012 (with Partnership List)

    .
    Hi CCCers,

We shall start our Booking List for Wednesday CCC at MSAC: 21-Nov-2012

It's our 241st Wednesday Social Session at MSAC (after we have moved here permanently); and it's our 44th for this year.

    We do a Booking List:
    (1) To welcome BadmintonCentral members to attend.
    (2) To ensure that players who have booked in would not be turned away.
    (3) To ensure that we have enough games for all players, it is best not to exceed 18 players.
Hope to have our 'Booking List' finalised by Tuesday 6:30pm.

    Reminder:
If you cannot attend, you will need to be removed before 4:30pm on Wednesday, otherwise you will be charged.
Why? Because there are CCCers who are wishing to attend (checking to book in - up to the last hours) have found themselves missing out after we have FULL HOUSE.

hmm.. are we in summer session or spring session at the moment? what shuttle are we using for next week? i think it will be a good idea if you put a shuttlecock section in the booking list to inform ppl what shuttlecock we will be using. like

    Brand: xxxx
    Status: used, new..

this will avoid argument during the game and add transparency into the process

Good idea. We shall post what shuttlecocks we shall be using.

There are only 2 sessions remaining for the Spring Season. Summer Season starts from 01-Dec-2012.

As I have posted, we shall be using the remaining 40 tubes for the coming sessions (as I estimated they will be used until we arrive nearer to the Autumn Season).

I prefer the airplane black shuttle cock(last week if recall correctly, it was really nice the whole session). IMO the epsilon (this week) was too heavy/fast, feels like hitting 1.25-1.5x birds. Two weeks ago, the birds suck to the max and only to find out there were used ones which i think is quite uncool.

Great idea with transparency! At least we know what we are expecting when we book in.

    Shuttlecocks Info

    .
We thank amiguy for posting the Shuttlecocks Info.

    While we are talking about Aeroplane Black, here is a link to read (we need to be careful);
    http://www.badmintoncentral.com/for...3603-Aeroplane-Black-quality-degraded-or-fake

Another point, when our climate/temperature is warmer, shuttlecocks fly faster (this is because of the thinner density of the air). Here, we can understand why many of our shots seem to be hit longer, and smashes seem to be faster.

    Chris,

I am sad that yesterday's session took the turn it did, but I'm glad that things were seemingly ok (or at least better) towards the end.

Since CCC is pro-openness, and I believe it's useful for everyone to be on the same page on this issue, I took the liberty to run some numbers.

    Preface:
Let me just talk briefly about the CCC membership fee structure. Invoices are issued quarterly and is for the amount of $30. 3 months per quarter equals an average of 12 weeks per membership period. $30 divided by 12 is $2.5. This is the amount of money CCC makes as income in addition to members' $10 weekly fee. This is a best-case scenario for the members, but since not every member will be at every session, the reality is that CCC earns quite a bit extra on top of the calculated $2.5 amount.

For the sake of this experiment, let's assume that everyone is a member, and that all members play weekly (extreme, and unlikely, best-case scenario).

    Income:
An average of 18 players paying an amount of $12.5 each = $225

    Expenses:
CCC hires out 6.5 hours of court time per Wednesday night session. This equates to:
    1x half hour (peak) = $9.90
    4x hours (peak) = $19.6 x 4 = $78.40
    2x hours (off-peak) = $15.70 x 2 = $31.40

So total expenses (minus shuttles), equals $119.7

    Surplus:
Using the above figures, CCC earns $105.3. It is from this amount that the club has to pay for shuttles and after which, the rest will be kept as a surplus.

In regards to shuttles, from my experience and from looking at various sources online, I dare say that you can get close to tournament grade shuttles for about $20 per dozen. If we stick with assumptions for now, CCC could buy around 5 tubes of these shuttles and still break even.

PS: I have had good experience with these Protech shuttles previously, and they are $17 per tube (without bulk distounts): http://www.protechsportsdirect.com.au/gallery/Shuttlecocks/protech-maxima/125740

If nothing else, hopefully this post has been somewhat informative.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

Voting matters for CCC Badminton decision-making

    .
    Hi CCCers,

It's great that we are communicating about our CCC matters in our thread.

Last night, a member said to me "Let's have a voting session - Now to decide".

I replied "We cannot have a voting session now; because not all our CCC members (visitors have no vote) to decide.

    May I state that we have 25 members currently. Only 12 members were at our session last night. Here are our CCC members (as posted in Post #8018). Members are marked with a '*';

    .
    Hi Daniel,

    Thank you for your post.

CCC Badminton is a Coaching Club.

You might be mistaken that we are just for games/social sessions.

When we calculate expenses-vs-income, our club session is only breaking even. You need to know. :):):)

Only some CCCers know that our income/expenses are shared evenly throughout all our sessions. Currently, read some of our Sunday's CCC thread.

There are some times when we have only one trainee turning up on our Sunday CCC CATS.

Our CCC Badminton Club is really for players wishing to learn more about Badminton - We are not just a club of games players.

    For games players, there are many other clubs catering (at MSAC) for them. namely;
    * Wesley Badminton Club, playing on Monday night.
    * Albert Park Badminton Club, playing on the same night (Wednesday night) as us.
    * MSAC Badminton, playing on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons.
    * etc. etc, .... (just to name a few).

I can only say that you should try out other clubs - Because you could find that other clubs might suit you better.

Actually, I am thinking of closing our Wednesday CCC Social Sessions - Why? Because many of our CCCers do not understand what CCC Badminton Club is all about.

WOW I must have missed some session last night whatever happened i'm sure we can resolve this so we can go back to playing the game we like so much...

While we're on this topic, may i also address some concerns that i have:

    1) In terms of Shuttlecock, i generally prefer RSL Classic Tourney or Aero Black (when they were still top quality and before they switched to synthetic cork). However, i also like to try other brands that are off similar quality so as long as the shuttles last for a long time and within acceptable speed, I don't mind.

    2) Personally I do not enjoy this format at all. It is too rigid/structured and it does not allow players to organise games and limits players flexibility for game organisation. I understand this method worked for previous format where we had approximately 26 players each week. Currently we have 18 players (or 19 including Chris), i'm sure with 2 courts being available, players can organise their own games.

Another thing that i don't like about this method is on some occassions, you and your partner end up playing the same pair for multiple times during the night and didn't play against other players.

For example: 2 weeks ago, there were 18 players that means we had 9 pairs in total. Due to the game structure which states:
"2.4 After your Qualification Matches, there should be winners and losers awaiting to play in the next scheduled match (the Challenge Match). As scheduled and when players enter onto the court, the 4 players may exchange partners if they wish (in other words only amongst the 4 winners, or only amongst the 4 losers). If a winner is to partner a loser, we don't know how to name your pair (as a winning or a losing pair)."

My partner and i ended up playing:

    4 times against 1 pair
    2 times against 2 pairs
    1 time against 4 pairs.
    0 time against 1 pair.

There is not enough distribution with every other players during the session. I like the idea that everyone can play against each other however, this format does not allow for that to happen. Maybe we should trial for self organisation in future weeks. It may or may not work but at least we're trying something else.

    3) we pay $30 membership per quarter (or $120 per year), is there any reason why that we does not go towards registration with Badminton Victoria? I know other badminton clubs which offer similar price membership fee yet their membership fee goes towards BV registration. Other than lower fees for any CCC sessions, it seems that there is not a lot of other benefits.

Please feel free to add if there are any other topics that needs clarification. 'm sure we're all happy to discuss this further.

    thanks,

    Cerebellum

In my humble opinion, self-regulations does not work.

Why? Because our timid CCCers get less games.

Out-going players keep returning to play again and again. Timid players find themselves playing in fewer games.

We cannot conform to our Badminton Victoria's structure

    .
Badminton Victoria structured their membership as per annum.

CCC Badminton structured our membership per season (Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter).

Therefore, we cannot conform to our Badminton Victoria's structure.

If our members wish to conform to an annual membership, then our CCC members will be registered with Badminton Victoria automatically.

Here, we need to discuss further - Whether our membership is to be annually, or quarterly/seasonally.

As I am requested to answer many questions from our CCCers

    .
As I am requested to answer many questions from our CCCers (from many questions from our threads), I am running out of patience.

My suggestion is this: Don't think of our CCC sessions just you; If unhappy, please leave our CCC sessions.

We are to look after all CCC members' requests, not just for some few. :):):)

Actually, our CCC trainees have more say (as compared to our Social players).
