i know the strings and rackets could be evaluated separately, and when they are being tested together (usually that's how it works), the combination is almost endless. big manufacturers like yonex usually do give a recommendation on the string that's best with a particular racket. usually i just ignore the recommendation because i see it as a marketing ploy to suggest that you should buy more yonex products. however, recently i strung my favorite victor VS850 string onto one of my favorite racket, yonex carbonex 8600 titanium, and it felt like crap. i've always love the characteristics of the VS850 and since i haven't tried the Zymax 62 again, i'm still sticking to the 850. usually the feel i get is a very solid vibration with a semi high pitch "thud". when i feel the "thud", it tells me that i have hit the shuttle on the sweet spot and it was a solid hit. all these "thuds" came from isometric heads of course. then i string the cab8600ti and the feeling was very disturbing. it felt like someone had hollowed out my racket and my string, and that everything i hit just felt very hollow. unfortunately, it wasn't the same hollowness as that from victor rackets that i've mentioned before, but it felt as if the string was going to just snap because it's so fragile. used it for an hour and since then i left it hanging on my wall instead of leaving it in my bag. i string another cab8600ti with ashaway microlegend xl and everything was back to normal. now i'm wondering, if the feel of a particular string changes from racket to racket???
There is only one string to rule them all... zm62 v.3! I've recently tried zm65 and bg66um. Close but can't match zm62 in terms of repulsion, feel, and that lovely sharp crack. By stringing it lower at 23-24 lbs, I find that it lasts for a while. Just don't hit plastic birds with hit or it'll break with a mishit.
got excited until the bit about plastic birds... Generally the "hard" strings are not as friendly on stiff rackets (more likely to cause injury without proper technique), other than that it depends more on playstyle than racket in my experience.
gundamzaku, did you use your usual stringer? Sometimes even the same stringer can make mistakes... you can check their tension with a frequency app for android or iOS. Also, if you're playing feathers and you want to know that you're hitting it right, you should be aiming for a sharp loud high pitched paarp sound... not a loud thud sound.
i string my own rackets so i do keep a close tap on the tension. as far as sound, it really depends on the string and racket. most of the time, it's a sharper higher pitch sound, but thicker strings give relatively lower pitch sound.
If you're your own stringer, then to check your own job, you have to have CarlTune for Android or ClearTune for iOS to monitor your frequencies.
I would rather say, WHICH PARTICULAR STRING suits me (first) and my racquet (second) ... My combos (all strung at my prefered 21x22lbs with same stringer - I made him RICH !!) to date: 1) Cab20sp + BG65 - ok, regular 2) Cab20sp + BG66 - BENCHMARK. 3) Cab20sp + BG80 - great sound but "hard" for me ... 4) Cab20sp + BG6 - somewhere between BG65 and BG66 5) Cab20sp + NG95 - nope ... not as nice as BG66 6) Cab20sp + NG98 - nope ... not as nice as BG66 7) Cab20sp + BG66Ultimax - "wow" ... but short-lived "wow" 8) Cab20sp + ZM62 - not as nice as BG66 - a bit "hard" 9) Cab20sp + ZM65 - same as ZM62 ... 10) Cab20sp + R4x100 - better than BG66 (overall) - my go-string for now !! Soon to try: 1) Gosen Nanocubic Nanomicro (0.66) 2) Victor VS850 My preferred string now is: GOSEN R4x100 (if I can find it !! - so bloody difficult to get it ), failing which then it is back to BG66 .... SO, to your question, maybe, just maybe, Cab20sp and me are more suited with BG66 (or equivalent)
Huh ? You mean the string got DIFFERENT GENERATIONS ? Sorry, I did not take notice, my stringer got a packet for me and string it for me as per my instructions. Zymax strings are hard to find in Malaysia (or I am definitely not looking at the right places ) and when you find them in the retail shops, they don't provide stringing service (or crappy service), I have to pay my regular stringer a separate charge to string it ... works out more expensive than Yonex !!
Yep, as we're at gen 3 now. Very repulsive and great feedback. And durability is improved from before. Cheaper to get online eg. Rkep, MBS, stringers world.
I am actually testing out the MBS service now, place an order for grommets for my Cab20sp last week .... still waiting .... see how they perform before I go for more substancial items Very funny MBS, I asked for EMS tracking service and they said, for grommets, no EMS available to Malaysia, even though I am prepared to pay the extra fees ...
You could always ask them. But looking at their reels, it's the latest packaging. And red colour is the latest gen also.
i already which string suits me, the vs850, but somehow it feels differently on different rackets. therefore, it begs the question, is there a particular string for a particular racket, and i guess the general agreement is.....possibly. zymax62 is one i have to try again, and the gosen or else your harassment will not end, hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
What ? Me ? I don't harrass ... I just STRONGLY RECOMMEND if I think it is good stuff but people forgotten/ignore about them just because they are "old" or not-so-popular ... I am your typical stingy/cheapskate, always going for best-value-for-money, best OOOOMMMPPHHH, tubby baddy player ...
