2011 Singapore Open SS: Wang Lin had aggravated her damaged left knee...... . Thanks cobalt... For the article and link. From the article; However, the day's worst heartache was reserved for Wang Lin, whose Olympic dream may be over after a recurrence of a serious knee injury which had kept her sidelined for seven months. Wang, who was on the comeback trail after anterior cruciate surgery, was 12-8 down to top-seeded compatriot Wang Shixian in the tournament's second round when she abruptly pulled out. Singapore Open officials said Wang had aggravated her damaged left knee and requested hospital treatment. If the knee has broken down, it almost certainly puts paid to her hopes of reaching next year's London Games. The 22-year-old was crowned world champion in Paris last August but dramatically fell to earth when she suffered the career-threatening injury in her very next match, in round one of the China Masters. Wang returned to action in April and has clawed her way back from 103 to 64 in the world, saying the thought of next year's Olympics was what drove her comeback. "It is every athlete's dream to compete at the Olympics," she told the Straits Times this week. But Wang will have to be among the top three players in fiercely competitive China to realise her ambition, with compatriots Wang Shixian, Wang Xin and Wang Yihan already heading the world rankings. .

It's good to know that Wang Lin is OK . I think coach Zhang Ning is happier to have Wang Shixian [1] (rather than Wang Lin) to face Juliane Schenk [8] at the Quarter-Finals. It's good to know that Wang Lin is OK. .
But look at the picture two posts above. Wang Lin seems to be in pain or at least kinda worried. Do you think she's that good of an actress?
Don't know if you've ever experienced it but when you feel a bit of a tweak to a healing injury, the normal reaction is to act with caution. Why aggravate it more? You lose one match, but save the rest of the season.
Yes, I can totally relate to that. It's just that some say, Wang Lin's retirement was planned before in order to give Shixian Wang an advantage for tomorrow's match against Schenk.
I watched her play at the Australian Open, she was moving around the court terribly, and got knocked out in quarter or semi final I think...anyhow maybe she tried to comeback too early?
Not what Robert Pires, Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, Joe Cole did after their similar knee injuries. But they do earn more than a badminton player....
Hate to say this. But if the injury wasn't an act, retirement might be best for her without risking further injury. Maybe she can be a coach in the US. I am sure the kids (and the adults too) would love her.
