well, golf can be considered a luxary/rich-man's sport. badminton is certainly not in that catagory... but by the same token, neither is hockey, and it's expensive too
the short life-span of feather shuttles....... the ridiculous cost of court hire/social play (depending where you are), and the cost of equipment. lol....... also the fact that its not televised like a lot of other sports (depending where you live)
Yes me too! The extreme costs for everything. Shuttles in England are about 12GBP+ each tube , court hire 8-10GBP , normally rackets are 100GBP+ - If you buy yonex. Endless expenses.
Yeah, that's frustrating. On my long list of badminton pet hates are also: Beginners using high end Yonex rackets but black soled trainers to play in People who have nasty grips and don't bother changing them when they ask me to string their rackets Beginners who say "oh yes, I play at [insert daft tension here]" when it's blatantly something much lower People who say it doesn't matter what racket you play with The staff at a local sports centre who hate me for no apparent reason (I no longer play there so it's not that relevant any more) There are many more but that'll do for now. Don't get me wrong, I love badminton but there are many things that frustrate me (and I'm sure everyone) about it.
- Short lifespan of shuttles in general, mostly feather though. - Beginners who ask for advice and then just ignore them, dont bother to even try to use them or who corrects me by saying that theyre wrong even though they asked me in the first place and Ive trained for 6 years+ and they havent ever trained under a trainer. - Losing
Definitely the accumulating costs. Shuttles, court hire, membership fees (when you need to change sports centres) and the list goes on... I feel sorry for those who have to change their grips and strings so regularly... costs!
Really?? I find it sometimes weird when sometimes a person thinks one racquet will make them miraculously better, and it makes a huge difference. Myself, I lean towards thinking that racquets dont' really matter. What about this belief irks you??
Shuttles. I hate the flight of plastic ones and the durability of feather ones. >_> I also hate that I hardly get to play FULL COURT singles )=
Omg I see that way to often...it get's worse when you talk to them about badminton all they do is comment on how good there racquet is in creaming the opposing side.
Slippery courts Bad lighting (too dim, too bright, coming at wrong angle) Deteriorating longevity of shuttles Shuttles that are too fast/slow Rising cost of good shuttles Players with ego way bigger than their skill level permits Players who will rather leave their courts empty than to share it with others Hmm... that's a lot of grief...
IMHO, rackets do matter somewhat. Going from steel -> graphite, huge difference. This sort of reinforced the notion that higher priced rackets do matter. This somehow projects past the point of diminishing returns. Some rackets are more suitable than others and it may not all be about performance. I have a ZELM which packs a serious punch. I still pick my Cab30 most of the time because I enjoy using it. So I'm with you the Cab30 did not miraculously make me a better player. I did end up enjoying my game a lot more and am proportionally more serious about it. Rackets do not make up for what's lacking in the technique. The right setup does enhance what you already have. That's why they(we) are beginners right? Almost everyone I know looks to racket to improve their performance. They get a good boost going from basic steel rackets to graphite one-piece racket. It's hard for them not to wonder how much improvement the "top" racket will get them. Throwing money at problem is usually the easiest solution.
expensive feather shuttlecocks questionable courts condition limited availability of courts lack of a badminton population, players to play with
lack of girls playing = sausage fest ==> wish I played tennis instead I also hate how people comment on how "easy" badminton is when they play backyard badminton.
i don't mind the costs, everything else is just a minor nuisance, what i hate most is the damage playing badminton does to your knees, shoulder, back, elbow etc ... this is a killer sport ....
-short life span of my strings(coz im a rough guy and my smashes usually breaks them) -beginners who dont appreciate their rackets no matter high end or low end thats about it
