do you really need money to motivate someone to play for his/her country in Olympics?

    .
Money is usually not good as a motivator. But it is good as a reward.

is that middle finger or index finger?

does it mean he is using the index finger more than the middle finger on his right hand?

Money is one of the factor. There are also nationalism, personal agenda, etc. among other things. The question is, how much is the percentage of 'money' factor in athletes' mind? ;)

JFK's "Ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country" is quite nice to quote, but sadly pretty much obsolete nowadays.

I was just joking :) ... yes that is his index finger... interesting that you point out, he's probably using his index finger on his other hand to squeeze the racket at the same time

IN Malaysia yes, because we don't even have an Olympic champion as of today! The government is looking every possible method to boost the athletes mentality...In another words means DESPERATE.

'No money no talk' over powers 'ask not what your country...yadayada and so on...':D These are professional baddy players, playing badminton is a full time job, no win, no money then no talk. If continue losing, then gets fired and needs to fry noodles to make ends meet:p
If saying money is not that important, try telling to those fellas running BAM and the entourage of supporting cast of coaches, high performance duds, how much $$$ they make not playing. If Rexy can make RM150K, I wonder how much NCC, KG, Nadzmi, Bata James make and continues to make when MAS badminton is going south after Dato retires. At least if players win and rewarded with bonuses and bring glory to the nation, the players e.g. Dato earns the dough;)

JFK's 'ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country', that was the 1960's catch phase. In the 90's, the movie Jerry McGuire catch phase was 'show me the money'. And of course, the catch phase of Malaysian from the 50's to now, and never out of style, is 'no money no talk':p:D
Winning a trophy is great, but just as great if not better is the $$$ that comes with winning. Try telling a chick, come see my mother of all trophy I just won, the chick said 'ar, so what big deal about that, I wanna see the $$$':D

Sadly, I couldn't find any pic of LCW's upright finger in the quarter-final match. But I'm hopeful of getting one in the finals! :D
