Or in DinkALot's case, don't smash and don't ever mishit :D

According to the Toray site: http://www.torayusa.com/cfa/intermediatemodulus.html
    M30S is 42.7 msi
    M30G is 42.7 msi

    But who's counting?

Can you give us an ideal of what kinds of graphite are used in specific top racquets?

I don't think Yonex uses carbon fiber grade higher than M40J, based on their ex-factory transfer prices. To use M65J would increase the same price by 7 times, which will not be economically viable.

What's the point of super high tension?

I have a racket that I bought that was supposed to be 25lbs but is actually much higher, and it's like throwing a plank of wood at the shuttle.

No feel, no massive smash gain over my mates NS9KS strung at 22lbs....what am I missing?

You're missing a higher 'racquet head speed'.

So it's just for smashes then?

I believe master Oldhand is indicating you need to swing harder to utilize the higher tension 26lbs+ tension on your friends racket. Over the last year ive gone from 22/23 lbs up to about 25 lbs currently. I jumped to 27 and it was stiff as a board. You definitely need a harder swing to use higher tension. This doesnt mean the PPP wont be the racket for you, just not at those tension.

Dan, any updates on the PPP aka Thunder? How is this run of prototypes compared to the last overspec runs?

No, it is used in almost all types of strokes. For example, if you are caught with a shot hit deep into your backhand and you just barely manage to reach it without anytime for any leverage from backswing, you just execute a sharp, short snap of the wrist for either a staright net or a cross net drop. There is hardly any movement of the arm and it is deceptive, effortless and very fast. It is also ideal for that quick taps at the net. Low tensions cannot do this with the speed and crispness of high tension.
Btw, you don't actually hit hard to hit well with high tension. It is the final acceleration of the wrist and hand that is the key. A classic example of this acceleration is a backhand clear where strength is not that important but lightning speed from the snap of the wrist is the key.

When at OCBC, I had a go with the Panda's new toys - the Thunder and the Pandamonium. (So did Halim Heryanto and the senior players at the club.)

There's every reason to be pleased with the prototypes.
The Pandamonium is not for me but I'll take the Thunder any day.
Compared to my Nanospeed 9900, the Thunder is a great racquet.

I wish the Panda had strung the racquets higher.
The two test racquets were strung pretty low.

The PPP was strung at 24lbs. for everyone to test.

The Thunder was strung at 30lbs. That's too low?...:p

I'm not sure you tried the Thunder, I remember you tried both the 85g and 88g PPP.

There's no point in taking a picture of an all black racket, prototype racket with no logos or graphics. :p

    Bollocks to that!

    Pixpixpixpixpixpix :p

So are you going to paint them white with black splotches?

I like the name 'Pandamonium'. It's way WAY better than the APACS Tantrum!

It had this little taped label on the shaft.
    And it said 'Thunder' :)

I wasn't aware that it was strung at 30 lbs
It felt much lower when alternated with my 900.

Must be some confusion because when Halim tried the Thunder he said the string tension was a bit tight. :p

I felt the string bed on your 900, it felt a bit looser than my Thunder, what string was that?

My 900 was strung at 31 pounds with Yonex BG-66.

    I'm now totally confused.
    Which was the Pandamonium?
    Which was the Thunder?

Maybe you got the labels wrong :D

Nope, I didn't have the labels wrong. :p

Regardless, I decided to go ahead and produce two rackets. Both rackets emphasize the following:

    1) Durability in both the frame and shaft.
    2) Stability and mobility with relatively very good to excellent power.

I decided that I am not sure of the names yet but it's going to be using the "Thunder" frame and shaft just the way it is, add USGs and ultra-premium grommets. This will be an ultra-stiff, advanced player and/or wristy player with compact swing type racket.

The second racket is for the masses, a much more forgiving, all-around racket. Basically a toned down version of the Yonex Ti10, more flexible and forgiving, less head heavy but with stronger frame.

    Stay tuned. :D

Thanks Tiger, but I already have Sketchy doing some designs for me. However, I have not been able to locate him in the past few days.

So Sketchy, if you are out there, please contact me, thanks!

As a fellow bird bomber, I'm eagerly awaiting my chance to try out the new Panda boomstick.
