here are a few pics of the clamp in various positions. on cross. this actually looks pretty good but the spacing for the SW35 is slightly narrower than some Yonexs. this is the spacing at the 11th main near the support with the Yonex pattern. it touches the side support a bit and that nudges it slightly. as a result the string isn't completely straight but pretty close to it. if you look closely the clamp is tapered near the corner so if the support isn't there it can get pretty close to the grommet. if you look closely there is a little tap that sticks out near the taper. i am not sure what function that do and i might just file it off if it bother me too much. this is near the tie off on 10th. the thickness of the clamp just fits in between 9th/11th. not bad. you can see that little tap again. and this is how the compact clamp fits into the gap between the support and the frame when tying off cross at 7th. while i think it is possible to have it all the way to the grommet, the risk of it slipping is too high as it means it will only be clamp the string at the finger tip. which is ok for thicker string at lower tension. this is 0.62mm@29lbs so it is not worth getting it so close. and this is how it works with tennis spacing: overall i think Gamma has a winner here. the new universal clamp actually fits badminton really well. the size is very compact and while things don't go tightly flushed, it is close enough in most cases. the action is not as light as say Yonex clamps but it doesn't come with a $8000 machine either.
dear kwan, how does ur gamma 6004 performed? what make u choose gamma instead of others more badminton related brand machine....yonex? i intend to buy a prince neos 6000 or a gosen gm600, any opinion..... i will string badminton, tennis and squash... pls advised.
hi kwun .... could you take the picture from behind the Wise2086 ? just wanna see whether the Wise2086 position is slant or not for the new adapter .... thanks
yes. i didn't do anything specific to compensate for the slant. i guess it is possible to bend that 1/4" Aluminum plate. but Aluminum don't bend very well and also the slant seems very minor.
for myself, i didn't get other higher end machine mainly due to the cost. Yonex is like USD$7xxx? Alpha are at least $25xx. most other fancier machines are $5xxx upwards. i might have to sell a kidney, a kid, a car or mortgage my house to get one of those. here i have a solution that cost $1300 for the machine and $500 for a pretty good electronic head. total $1800 which works out well for me. esp since i am not doing it for a living i really cannot justify something more expensive than this. as for the Gosen and Prince... do you mean the GM660? i believe that's badminton only. i cannot find a pic for the GM600 though it has been referred to on some webpages. as for the Prince, it is nice looking machine and at a decent price also, there are two reservations i have: - it is mainly designed for tennis with tennis dimensions. - the support posts are not adjustable. what this means is that the distance between side supports are not adjustable and since this is designed for tennis, it will be too wide for badminton. when looking at tennis machines, one of the most important factor for badminton is that it needs to be 6 pt support and the posts needs to be adjustable.
thanks kwan, i didnt noticed abt the non-adjustable condition of prince machine.... how abt gosen GM08EX, any idea abt this machine btw, which site shld i refer to, for a better bargain of machine.... as this gosen machine will cost me abt RM 20k (in malaysia) tq
thanks kwun for the picture .... for the badminton maybe is not a big issue, but for the long run still questionable. when you do check the tension, is it still the same as before ? RM 25K for Gosen Machine (close to US$ 8200) .... wow.
that looks like a nice machine. also look for the Alpha Ghost which i believe share the same turntable as the Gosen, and not surprising that they are both made by Exthree/Poreex. the electronic do look different and that's very hard to tell if they are any good.
Talk to the guys at Paragon Mechanical, they built the Stands for BBC and CBA They do sheet metal fabrication and like to play badminton.
for reference, this is DarthHowie's (PeteLSD's old) Gamma 6004. with the WISE Gamma adapter, the gripper is sitting at the racket head plane which is good for pulling but won't have 360 rotation. without the WISE Gamma adapter, the gripper sits at the same height as my Gamma which means even though they revised the tensioner bar, they didn't change its height relative to the turntable.
It would be interesting to compare the older generation of 6004 versus the newest one. I wonder if the internals of both machines have some minor differences.
