My goodness, if there is still this much interest in Gillian Clark we ought to get her on the forum. Or ask Raphael at Badzine to do one of his Live Chat interviews with her. Then all the vital questions could be answered: "How did she get the job?"; "Why does she mispronounce names?" ;"Who does her lovely hair?"; "Is John Burgess a good dancer?"

    "Ohhh my WORD!!!"

Badminton co-commentators talk way too much - sometimes all the way through a succession of rallies. Imagine if this occurred in tennis...

GC doesn't seem to know who Tang Xianhu is. She always mentions Zhang Ning but never says a word about the old man sitting next to her.

I find this thread very amusing, especially how everyone is interpreting her accent. I am English and how she speaks is perfectly natural to me, especially with regards to her accent/intonation. I find American commentators for example very amusing too!

    I like that last question:)

We should just ask her ourselves for the interview. As pointed out, the expressions are typically english so one should not find them strange at all. I hope I've hit the nail on the head with that. :D

She definitely knows him and has mentioned him in the past but the relevance may be lost on the wider audience. The guy is so low profile. I would doubt saying Tang Xian Hu would make people realise this is the man who is the basis of China's success in the last decade.

True... :( but it doesn't have that same, er, contemporary flavour as the other one... :p
...not that I'd every imply that GC is not au courant; we do love her, dearie... :D

BTW, some asked about the originator of the "injection of pace" phrase earlier on this thread. I heard Anthony Bush mention it at the AE 1999 MS finals... and sitting with him at the commentator's table was... GC!

    The plot thickens, Watson! Deliciously!
